WAPAKONETA – Ottawa Glandorf’s consecutive shutout half streak has now reached 29 since last allowing a goal as the Titans blanked Riverdale 3-0 in the Division 3 regional semifinals on Tuesday night.
Mackenzie Recker opened the scoring for the Titans just over three minutes into the contest as she raced through the Falcon defense and sprayed a shot past keeper Anjelina Sierra to give her blue and gold squad a 1-0 lead they would never relinquish.
Paced by a fast turf and strong defensive effort by Riverdale the Titans opened the second half with a 1-0 lead. Ottawa Glandorf’s advantage grew to 2-0 with 34:53 remaining in the game thanks to the effort from senior Lily Haselman who snagged a loose ball and fired an offering into the net for her seventh goal of the season.
Pushed to nearly 30 yards away, OG junior Mackenzie Recker blitzed a ball towards the Falcons net that fell just over the outstretched hands of Sierra and in to push the lead to 3-0 for the WBL champions.
Riverdale sees their season come to an end at 12-6-2 while holding the Titans to their lowest scoring output since a pair of back to back 3-0 wins against Findlay and Celina at the end of September.
Ottawa Glandorf improves to 18-1-2 on the campaign and will next take the pitch on Saturday afternoon in Tiffin for a 12pm regional finals battle against Woodmore in a game that will be broadcast live on WZOQ Radio.
“I’m proud of the group for earning a hard fought victory tonight. Our midfield had a solid game today on both sides of the ball, and defensively they put in a lot of high intensity trying to break up Riverdale’s possession. Offensively they created some attacking chances for us and finished their chances as well. The group is motivated to keep improving and our focus is now on Woodmore for a big matchup Saturday” said Titan head coach Michelle Maag after the victory.
