Ottawa Glandorf’s Myka Aldrich was named as the Western Buckeye League Player of the Year for the 2023 girls soccer season on Sunday by the league’s coaches.
Aldrich, a senior for the Titans headed to play collegiately at Sienna Heights University in Adrian, Michigan has scored 17 goals and notched five assists this season while helping to lead OG to a 9-0 record and a WBL title for the second straight season.
Joining Aldrich on the first team are classmates Mackenzie Recker (15 goals, 12 assists), Bri Douglass (12 goals, 11 assists), and last season’s Player of the Year Makenna Siefker who leads the Titans with 22 scores and seven helpers.
Second team honors for the league champions were given to junior defender Carlie Brinkman (two assists), and sophomore defender Savannah Recker (one goal). OG senior defender Madelyn Hovest (one goal) and sophomore keeper Karsyn Erford (39 saves) were rewarded with third team honors while junior defender Megan Horstman (one goal) was tabbed an Honorable Mention selection.
First team honors for the rest of the league were given to the St. Marys duo of keeper Ella Jacobs and Wright State signee Aerial Fast, Elida’s Jojo Knight, Bath’s Hailey Hale, Celina’s Ellie Hitchcock, Shawnee’s Kamryn Morris, and the Wapak duo of Audrey Sparks and Maddison Springer.
Bath’s trio of Karlie Wallace, McKenna O’Keif, and Faith Clark kicked off the second team selections and were joined by Jacci Felver (Celina), Lexi Good (Elida), Cameron Ridenour (Shawnee), Grace Burnfield (Wapak) and the St. Marys tandem of Reagan Allemeier and Sophie Menker.
Defiance keeper Eliza Ramirez and Kendall Rittenhouse were joined on the third squad by Tatum Walsh of Bath, Alex Kimmel of Celina, Carmen Blaine from Elida, Addy Haudenschield of Kenton, Chloe Cleaves of Shawnee, Kendal Davis from league runner up St. Marys, and Paige Olberding of Wapak.
Honorable Mention selections were given to a player from each team and featured Bath’s Hadyn O’Donnell, Celina’s Paige Veit, Defiance’s Alex Fernandez, Wapak’s Gabby Raney, Van Wert’s Sydney Dowler, Bella Hile of Shawnee, Brianna Patrick from Elida, Kelly Holsinger of St. Marys, and Ruby Styer from Kenton.
Ottawa Glandorf head coach Michelle Maag was honored as the conference’s coach of the year for the second season in a row. The Lady Titans have won their last 21 WBL matches by a combined 140-1 score under Maag’s tutelage.
