Siekfer Breaks School Record in Titans Win

ELIDA – Ottawa Glandorf senior Makenna Siefker wrote her name in the schools record books on Monday night in a 6-0 victory at Elida.

Entering play the senior has notched 91 goals in her career, leaving her two shy of tying Titan great Brittany Kiracofe’s 93 tallies from 2004-2007.

Leading 4-0 in the second half with two first half goals already to her name to tie the previous mark, Siefker banged home the record breaker off of an Ottawa Glandorf corner kick past Elida keeper Cheyenne Bowers to set the new scoring mark.

“There aren’t many people who see the work Makenna has put in behind the scenes over the years to get to this point” said Titan head coach Michelle Maag. “Breaking a record like this is such a difficult feat and shows how consistent Makenna has played over her four year career thus far.”

Ottawa Glandorf’s tenacious defense helped the Titans (6-1, 3-0) jump out to an early lead against the Bulldogs. Senior forward Maya Heringhaus opened the scoring for OG with just over five minutes gone as she snagged a loose ball and raced a shot into the back of the net for her third goal of the campaign.

“We came out fast and got an early goal against a good Elida squad and played consistently well through the first half” opined Maag.

Siefker’s first of two goals in the opening half of play came with 21:55 remaining before the break as she grappled for a loose ball and turned a shot past Bowers to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.

Sophomore midfielder Brea Recker jumped aboard the Titan scoring train in the first half just seconds after Siefker as she threaded the needle on a shot for her third goal of the year to push the OG lead to 3-0.

Goal 93 to tie Brittany Kiracofe’s record for Siefker continued to show why the All-American and former WBL Player of the Year is one of the best and most creative scorers in the area as the senior wrestled away a loose ball from Elida keeper Cheyenne Bowers and spun the ball into the back of the net.

Leading 5-0 following Siefker’s hat trick and record breaking goal, the Titans faithful erupted in cheers once again thanks to senior Kaelyn Grothause who rocketed home a kick after being fouled just outside the top of the box.

Grothause, a senior missed nearly all of her junior campaign after suffering a serious injury in the 2023 opener but has returned with a bang for the Titans having handed out five helpers and her first goal this year.

“Tonight was a good team win, we dropped off a bit in the second but I liked the way we finished the last 20 minutes” said Maag. “The headliner of the night was Makenna breaking the OG career scoring record held by Brittany Kiracofe. Brittany was a player I loved to watch in grade school. Now that Makenna holds the record I know there are so many young Titan fans who will look up to her and the great role model she is to them.”

Elida slips to 2-4 on the season and 1-2 in the league and will next tangle with WBL rival Bath on Thursday night while Ottawa Glandorf hosts conference unbeaten St. Marys in a potential league title eliminator.

The Titans win over the Bulldogs is their 24th consecutive Western Buckeye League victory, a streak that has seen the blue and gold outscore opponents 166-2 with 22 shutouts on the defensive end.

“We are excited about another big WBL victory and are looking forward to a great game against St. Marys on Thursday as part of our annual Build-A-Burger night.”
