GLANDORF – Ottawa Glandorf started their 2021 season and first under new coach Michelle Maag with a blowout win on Saturday night as they defeated visiting Evergreen 10-1.
The Lady Titans jumped on the scoreboard at the Titan Sports Complex first with under five minutes gone on the first career goal by freshman Makenna Siefker that was set up by a long lead by teammate Alexa Fortman at 35:52 for a 1-0 lead.
While keeping their opponents unable to cross into the goal box and amass a shot, the Titans notched their second goal of the night with 18:31 remaining before the half as Myka Aldrich scored on a penalty kick that was assessed on an Evergreen defender pulling down Clara Beach on a breakaway in the box.
Ottawa Glandorf continued to rotate their subs in and out while using fresh legs to keep the Vikings off the scoreboard and once again upped their advantage at 11:24 on a line drive from Alexa Fortman for a 3-0 lead.
Goals by Mackenzie Recker at 9:31 and Clara Beach at 8:31 pushed the Titan lead to 5-0. OG tossed in a pair of goals from Fortman and Lily Haselman in a :19 span to take a 7-0 lead into the halftime break.
In the opening moments of the second half the speedy Fortman, having already completed a preseason cross country meet earlier in the day in Columbus picked up her first career hat trick as she raced a ball past Evergreen’s keeper at 38:12 for an 8-0 advantage.
Freshman Makenna Siefker continued the scoring parade for OG at 27:13 by taking a corner kick lob from Haselman and sticking the ball into the back of the net for her second score of the night.
Evergreen captain Sydney Woodring, a 15 goal scorer in 2020 provided the lone goal of the match for her squad at 22:25 by racing through the heart of the Titan defense and placing a shot over the hands of seasoned OG keeper Abby Warnecke to cut the lead to 9-1.
With 8:12 left before the final horn Ottawa Glandorf’s Kaelyn Grothause, a freshman midfielder knocked home the final score of the game and the third by a Titan playing in their first high school contest for a 10-1 final.
OG has now beaten Evergreen three straight times including a regular season and tournament victory during the 2020 campaign.
Up next for Evergreen (0-1) is a trip to Springfield on Monday evening while the Titans will next be in action for the second of their four home matches in their first five of the season as they host Bluffton on Wednesday evening at 7:00 P.M. in a game that will be broadcast live on WZOQ Radio
