COLDWATER – Junior Brianna Keller notched her second career hat trick and moved into fourth place all-time on the Coldwater career scoring list as she led the Cavaliers to a 5-0 victory over Spencerville Thursday night at Cavalier Stadium.
Led by an at times hyper fast break offense the Cavs pelted Spencerville junior keeper Jaelynn Boop with nearly 15 first half shots while keeping her teammates from being able to move into the opposite goal box for most of the first half.
Tied through the first 24 minutes of play the hosts hit the scoreboard to take a 1-0 advantage with 15:11 remaining before the break as a header from Keller raced past Boop and into the goal for her first marker of the game.
Keller added her second goal with 5:44 off one of seven first half corner kicks as she jumped in front of a high ball in the air from teammate Ava Giere and bodied in a shot to run the advantage to 2-0 Coldwater.
Leading 2-0 through the halftime stoppage and into the early part of the second half the Cavaliers once again utilized a Keller goal to add to their advantage as the forward struck from nearly 30 yards out with 27:00 on the stadium clock to make it a 3-0 contest.
Despite the Bearcats amassing a handful of shots the hosts goaltending duo of Macy Sheffer and Emma May were able to keep the shutout in place by turning away all four shots they faced for Coldwater.
Ava Giere, the second leading all-time goal scorer for the Cavs added her 12th of the season and 71st of her career with 9:50 remaining as she snagged a pass from a teammate and raced past the Spencerville defense before blasting a ball into the net for a 4-0 lead.
The final marker of the game came with 38.9 seconds remaining on a play that saw four Cavs blitz the net and Hope Hemmelgarn add the last score for a 5-0 win.
Spencerville (0-4, 0-1 WOSL) is next in action on Tuesday, September 14th at 7:00 P.M. as part of a home doubleheader with the boys team as both take on Botkins. Jaelynn Boop made 24 saves in between the pipes for the Bearcats on the evening.
Coldwater (5-2, 2-0 WOSL) outshot the Bearcats 35-4 and improved to 3-2-1 all-time in the series. Next up for the Cavaliers is a Saturday morning 11:00 A.M. non-league tilt against visiting Delphos Jefferson.
