Titans topple Skins in WBL clash

OTTAWA – Ottawa Glandorf toppled visiting Wapakoneta 57-35 to remain unbeaten in Western Buckeye League play Thursday night inside the Supreme Court.

The host Titans jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the opening minutes of play behind baskets by Emma Brinkman and free throws and a pair of baskets from Erin Kaufman and Chloee Glenn before the Redskins were able to notch their first marker, a free throw by Addy Allen to get her team on the board with 4:38 left on the clock.

Junior Reagan Courter trimmed the deficit to 6-5 with 3:52 remaining before a triple from Brinkman seconds later gave the Titans a 9-5 lead. In the opening quarter Brinkman, a 5’7 junior accounted for a career high eight points and a pair of connections from behind the arc to put OG on top 16-13 at the first buzzer.

Malone signee Erin Kaufman paced the OG offense in the second stanza with six of her seven game points and gave her team an early second quarter run. Wapak senior guard Nikane Ambos tied the contest at 18-18 with 5:39 to go after a triple from teammate Elisabeth Good cut the lead to just two moments earlier.

Over the final nearly six minutes the Ottawa Glandorf offense outscored their WBL rivals 11-0 on fast break baskets by Myka Aldrich, Kaelyn Grothouse, Erin Kaufman, and a free throw as time expired by Chloe Schroeder to amass a 29-18 halftime lead.

While Nikane Ambos was able to stop a nearly nine minute drought for the Redskins to cut the OG lead to 32-20 with 5:04 in the third the momentum and quarter would belong to Chloee Glenn.

Glenn, a 1st team Western Buckeye League honoree a season ago took over the game as she accounted for 10 of her game and career high 26 points to add to her teams advantage and added a three point goal from the top of the key with 4:38 left in the quarter when she found herself wide open by the defense.

Outside of a pair of three point goals by Brinkman and Lily Haselman and a free throw by the latter the Titans turned the keys to their offense over to Glenn in the second half as she finished off the evening by burying a second shot from behind the arc on the evening for the last of her game high markers.

Wapakoneta who lost guard Katie Lisi earlier in the evening finished with an Alyssa Harrod basket in the final seconds but fell 57-35 once the final horn sounded for their eighth straight setback in the series.

Nikane Ambos led the Redskins (2-3, 1-1) in scoring with 13 points. Next up for Wapak is a Saturday afternoon non-conference clash against Marion Local.

Glenn’s 26 paced OG (4-0, 2-0) while Brinkman’s career high 11 joined her classmate in double figures. Ottawa Glandorf is off until Tuesday night when they travel north to Findlay to battle Liberty Benton in a game starting at 7:30 p.m. that can be heard live onĀ WZOQ Radio
