SPENCERVILLE – Led by a trio of goals from freshman Lauren Auchmuty the Columbus Grove Bulldogs improved to 2-0 in NWC play with a 6-0 victory over host Spencerville Tuesday night.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring just minutes into the contest as senior Maddie Thompson blasted a ball past Spencerville junior keeper Jaelynn Boop for a 1-0 lead at 33:05.
Unable to clear out of their defensive zone the Bearcats surrendered the second marker of the evening on a header by Auchmuty that crossed the goal line at 30:05 for a 2-0 advantage for the visiting Bulldogs.
Columbus Grove continued to pepper Boop with shots on the offensive end of the field and while the Bearcats keeper turned a way a handful of shots she was unable to stop an Auchmuty one-timer that crossed in front of the goal from teammate Landyn Dotson to push the hosts lead to 3-0 with 25:26 remaining.
Bulldogs head coach Chris Halker stated after the game “We wanted to come out and pass the ball well and communicate. We have been working on our communication because when the girls talk on the field we play much better and it was nice to see the talking and passing the ball go well all game long. Just working at getting better and better as the season goes.”
Halker’s orders were followed to near perfection by his troops in the second half as the Bulldogs opened up a 4-0 lead just a minute after the first touch of the final 40 minutes as Maddie Thompson raced her second marker of the contest past Boop for a score.
First team Northwest Conference selection Kenzie King upped the advantage to 5-0 just under a minute later as she knocked in her first goal of the season with 37:14 left in the game.
Boop, a first year varsity soccer player and goal keeper turned away double digit Bulldog attempts but was tagged with the final score of the game with 19:00 to go as a host of Grove offensive players sprinted towards the net and helped Auchmuty notch her hat-trick to solidify the Bulldog win.
Spencerville falls to 0-3 on the season and 0-2 in the Northwest Conference and will next be in action on Thursday evening for a 6:00 P.M. tussle with WOSL foe Coldwater.
Next up for the Bulldogs (3-1, 2-0) is a Monday 5:00 P.M. tilt at home against Allen East in NWC play and a Tuesday evening Putnam County League clash at Fort Jennings.
