Balanced scoring leads Titans past Jackets

PERRYSBURG – Three Ottawa Glandorf Titans scored in double figures on Saturday on the road in Perrysburg en route to a 55-41 victory.

Visiting for the first time since 2019, O-G jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead and never trailed against the host Yellow Jackets.

Junior guard Karsyn Erford toted the scoring load for the Titans (18-0) in the opening eight minutes as she slashed her way through Jacket defenders for seven of her game high tying 13 points. Erford would strike again in the third for the rest of her markers to help O-G extend their advantage.

Triples for the Titans began to fall as Erford created separation inside, connected on by the duo of Kaitlyn Kimmet (13 points), and Megan Horstman (six points) to push the lead to 18-10 after one.

“I thought Perrysburg did a good job of taking us out of what we normally want to do,” said Troy Yant.”

Perrysburg (11-8) utilized their ability to hit from deep anywhere on the court against the Titans. Senior Sophie Mitchell (10 points) snagged her squads first points of the game with 5:30 remaining in the first and helped sophomore teammate Lauren McConnachie down one herself to get within 11-8.

Mitchell continued her mastery of the long ball just before the half as she swished a shot from deep behind the arc at the buzzer to pull the hosts within 30-21.

While the Titan offense lit up the scoreboard with scores off of Jacket miscues, the Jackets themselves again were forced to keep pace with deep shots. In the second half the hosts connected on five of their six makes from behind the line.

Missing senior leading scorer Chloe Kilbride to injury, Perrysburg was forced to turn to honorable mention district selection Addy Bryne for scoring. Bryne produced in the second half with all of her team high 11 points, including three triples.

Scoring from seven players in the second half pushed the Titan lead back into double digits over the closing minutes, led by Liv Grothause who herself notched another double figure game with 12 points.

Utilizing pressure defense from defenders Megan Horstman, Gracie Lammers, and Kaelyn Grothause among their top rotation players, the Titans forced 14 Perrysburg turnovers.

In the post Ottawa Glandorf relied on their speed and size in the form of Kimmet and 6’2 sophomore Madison McKee for rebounding and to close the lane to would be scorers.

“I thought Gracie and Madison especially gave us good rotations off the bench today,” said Yant. “We made shots for the most part when we needed to and our defense was pretty good, but we did have a few breakdowns that allowed space for their shooters to hit shots.”

Perrysburg falls to 1-7 all-time against the Titans and will return to action on Monday when they host Clay.

Ottawa Glandorf finishes up their regular season slate on Thursday when they host WBL rival Celina, but will first play host to Archbold in a non-league tilt on Tuesday evening.
