OTTOVILLE – Ottoville controlled the ball for a majority of the contest and enjoyed a significant advantage on the on shots Monday evening as they blanked visiting Temple Christian 5-0 for their 11th straight victory to open the season.
Big Green junior Will Miller got the scoring going for his team with 23:12 remaining in the first half he was able to send a slow roller from 10 yards out past a charging Cody Motter of Temple Christian for a 1-0 advantage.
Miller’s impact on the contest was felt almost immediately once again just a minute later as he laced a ball through the Pioneer defense to teammate Preston Mansfield who kicked in his sixth score of the year for a 2-0 Ottoville lead with 22:00 remaining before the halftime stoppage.
Sophomore Trey Landwehr had scored a pair of goals in the teams first ten games this season but doubled his total within a span of 1:42 as he first rolled a left footed shot past Motter for a 3-0 lead at 15:45 and again struck off of an assist from Brice Schroeder and goal keeper Kaiden Trentman whose goal kick traveled the length of the pitch to Schroder who found a streaking Landwehr and a 4-0 lead with 14:03 to go for a score.
Ottoville controlled the shots in the game as they fired 27 shots to the Pioneers six but also found themselves with many opportunities to work on their corner kicking game as they enjoyed a 10-0 advantage on the evening.
Temple Christian goalie Cody Motter took a couple of chances in the game as he came out to play bouncing balls near the front of the box but was also under fire most of the match against the speedy Big Green attack but was able to make a handful of big saves and finished unofficially with 13 stops.
The last goal of the game came from the foot of Ottoville senior Kyle Manns as he slashed through the would be defenders off of a lead from Will Miller for a score and a 5-0 lead with 27:35 left on the scoreboard.
Temple Christian (2-8-1) has now been shut out in three consecutive outings and outscored in that span 18-2. The Pioneers will travel to the east side of Lima on Saturday afternoon when they take on the Bath Wildcats.
Ottoville (11-0) is outscoring their opponents 46-5 this year and will be in action for Friday Night Futbol at home when they play host to county rival Miller City at 7:00 P.M.
Trentman stopped four Temple Christian shots on goal and notched his 21st career shutout and eighth of the season in goal.
