OTTAWA – Just as she did a season ago against Delta, Chloee Glenn scored a career high in points to help lead Ottawa Glandorf to their 25th straight home victory 51-37 over the visiting Panthers.
Last season at Delta the then freshman post scored a then career high 17 points in a OG victory. This time around the 5’10 Glenn scored a career high tying 18 on her way to her 11th double figure scoring output of the season.
OG jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first quarter on a Kelsey Erford fast break basket and added to their advantage just half a minute later on a pair of free throw connections by Glenn.
Trailing 8-5 in the waning moments of the opening stanza the Panthers turned to sophomore sharpshooter Sophia Burres who had already connected from just inside half court in the junior varsity game to even up the score heading into the first stoppage.
While neither squad was able to pull away in the opening moments of the second, the Panthers snagged 9-8 and 11-10 leads on a free throw and basket by Braelyn Wymer and Reagan Rouleau.
Following a basket from post teammate Erin Kaufman to go ahead 10-9 the Titans pulled even at 11-11 on the third straight connection from Glenn at the free throw line before jumping ahead on pass from Glenn to Kaufman with 4:48 for a 13-11 advantage.
Though Erin Kaufman would be forced out of the contest in the middle of the quarter due to injury the Titans pressure defense began to help amass an eight point halftime 21-13 lead on baskets by Glenn and a three point goal from Ella Okuley.
“I thought Delta played very aggressive defense for much of the first half and dictated the tempo of the game. They were very aggressive to the ball and did a pretty good job of offensive rebounding against us, so there are some things for us to work on” said OG coach Troy Yant on his teams first half performance.
Similarly to the first quarter the Titans turned the reigns of their offensive output to the duo of Kelsey Erford and Chloee Glenn as the duo combined for 14 of the teams 20 markers in the stanza.
Delta’s best offensive quarter of the contest came in the same eight minute span as Brooklyn Green hit for three baskets and was joined in the scoring column by Brooklyn Wymer (5 points, 3/3 free throws), and Braelyn Wymer who connected on the only Delta shot from beyond the arc in the quarter.
With Erin Kaufman back in the lineup both wearing a mask in the third quarter and without a mask in the final period the Titans entered into a free throw shooting contest over the first seven and a half minutes with the Panthers.
Kaufman herself connected on 5 of 6 of OG’s 10 charity tosses while the Delta trio of Wymer, Green, and Wymer hit for 7 of 8 from the line for their only points in the last period.
The games only make from the field in the last eight minutes came from Kelsey Erford with :36 to go for the final markers in a 51-37 Titan victory.
Delta (9-5) was led by Braelyn Wymer and Brooklyn Green’s 10 points each while OG finished with Glenn (18), and Erin Kaufman (11) in double figures.
“I was pleased with Chloee Glenn’s consistent effort in being involved with all aspects of our offense but we still need to work on getting consistent guard play. I also thought Erin Kaufman was emerging as a solid offensive and defensive player in the game before being injured. We will see what happens Monday night and just roll with it” Yant said on the overall view of the afternoon.
Next up for the Panthers is a date with NWOAL foe Archbold while the Titans will host a Western Buckeye League tilt on Monday evening as Van Wert visits the Supreme Court with a 6:00 P.M. JV two quarter affair that can be heard live onĀ WZOQ Radio
