ARCHBOLD – Third ranked Ottawa Glandorf toppled #12 Archbold 7-0 Saturday afternoon behind goals from six different players to claim victory between two of the highest ranked squads in Division 3.
“Today was another step forward, a quality win over a quality opponent. We were multidimensional in our attack today while scoring off of corners, crosses, long shots and inside the 18” said Titan third year head coach Michelle Maag.
OG erased memories of their 0-0 draw a season ago in Glandorf with 22:45 to go in the first half thanks to junior defender Megan Horstman who rocketed a shot past Archbold keeper Maddie Short to scratch her first career goal into the Titan record books.
The final two scores of the first half came in nearly identical fashion for the visitors working directly off one of their six corner kicks in the contest.
Myka Aldrich headed in a high cross from teammate Bri Douglass with 20:29 showing on the stadium scoreboard and watched on as teammate Marissa Brown scored just moments later at 17:38 with a header of her own off of an assist from Delaney Duling to make it 3-0 OG.
Goals in the second half came fast and furious for the defending WBL champions thanks to Mackenzie Recker’s marker just :27 into the final 40 minutes of play.
Leading 4-0 the Titans ran their advantage to 5-0 under a minute later thanks to a lead pass from Recker that set up Siefker’s header on the run into the back of the net with 38:36 left.
“We moved the ball well especially at the start of the second half and got two quick goals in the run of play after halftime” said Maag.
Utilizing the header as their mode of score for the afternoon Ottawa Glandorf moved in front 6-0 with 22:35 to go with on a line drive by Aldrich that struck an Archbold defender high and floated over the keeper into the net.
On their final tally of the contest the Titans youth jumped into the conversation thanks to Katelyn Reed’s pass to Emma Heringhaus that quickly set up a shot through the defense with 14:29 remaining.
“Six different players scored today which shows the unselfish play from our group and willingness to take whichever option the defense gives. We have a quick turnaround as we head back into league play on Tuesday night against a good Bath squad” finished Maag on her thoughts on the win.
Archbold falls to 5-2-1 on the season and will travel to Liberty Center on Tuesday evening to battle the Tigers in an NWOAL clash.
