OTTOVILLE – Ottawa Glandorf posted their 13th straight shutout on Saturday afternoon to secure a trip to the regionals for the second year in a row as they defeated Miller City 6-0 in the Division 3 Ottoville District Finals.
Meeting their county mate for the first time since the 2014 regular season the designated visitors jumped on the scoreboard early when junior forward Bri Douglass kicked in her 20th goal of the season with 36:07 remaining in the half to make it a 1-0 Titan advantage.
OG ran their lead to 2-0 with 32:17 showing on the scoreboard thanks to Lily Haselman’s pass for her team leading 15th assist on the season to sophomore forward Maya Heringhaus who found the net just in front of Wildcat keeper Liz Otto for her third marker of the year.
Bathed in sunshine on a perfect day for soccer the Titans raced out to a 3-0 advantage ten minutes later as a pass to Bri Douglass quickly set up a sprint to the goal and a shot from the left side to the back of the goal.
Senior Lily Haselman provided the final score of the first half with 8:28 to go on a free kick from the OG standout that came just seconds after a disallowed goal just after an officials whistle in front of the box.
“We got out to a great start tonight. We had talked about wanting to start fast and score early and it worked in our favor tonight. Tonight was another game of even scoring distribution which is always great to see” opined second year head coach Michelle Maag on her squads big first half.
Held scoreless through the first 11 minutes of the second half by an aggressive Miller City defense, the Titans found their fifth goal of the night with 28:57 as junior Myka Aldrich redirected a kick past Otto and into the goal for her 44th career score.
Utilizing their deep bench as the game wore on the Ottawa Glandorf lead grew to 6-0 with 20:09 thanks to freshman midfielder Delaney Duling who found herself with the final marker and her second of the season on a shot into the corner of the net.
After the game Maag remarked “I’m really proud of the girls. This team has worked hard to achieve this district title. We’re excited that we get another day to play soccer together and I think with every day we get that we can find days to get better. I’m looking forward to a big matchup with Riverdale on Tuesday.”
Miller City’s season ends at 16-4-1 while Ottawa Glandorf’s continues at 17-1-2 with a date on Tuesday evening at 6pm in Wapakoneta in the regional semifinals. Tuesdays game can be heard live onĀ WZOQ Radio.
