OG takes control of WBL race

LIMA – Ottawa Glandorf trailed 2-0 Friday night on the road at Lappin Gymnasium before rattling off the next 11 markers before never falling behind again as they remained unblemished in the Western Buckeye League with a 55-41 victory over Shawnee.

Sophomore Beckett Bertke opened the scoring for the Indians (11-6, 6-1) with the first of his game high 21 points before a Titan onslaught led by Grady Toumazos and Colin White sent the guests out to a 16-9 advantage after one.

White, a senior headed to Ohio State University punctuated the OG run with 3:30 to go in the opening stanza when he snagged a pass from classmate Caden Erford and slammed home a massive two-hand dunk that brought the blue and gold faithful out of their seats.

Long balls from Grant Schroeder and Erford continued the run for the Titans in the second during the run to the half while the tight defense of head coach Tyson McGlaughlin’s crew held the Indians to just a pair of triples and free throws in the scoring column.

Leading 32-17 to open the third the physicality of the contest caught up with Ottawa Glandorf troops when White was called for his third foul and forced to sit for the latter part of the quarter.

Grady Toumazos connected on a pair of three pointers and a free throw line jumper for the Titans in the meantime to push the lead out to 42-26 heading into the final eight minutes of play. Toumazos finished the game with 14 and was joined by White (16), and Erford (11) as double digit scorers for OG.

Shawnee drew within 13 points on multiple occasions thanks to nine from Bertke and four from Dominic Lynch but were held at bay as the Titans duo of White and Erford accounted for 10 of the Titans 13 markers in the period to secure the victory.

Ottawa Glandorf moves to 16-2 on the season and 7-0 in conference play with their 26th consecutive WBL victory and will be back in action on Saturday evening when they host Troy Christian as part of the fourth annual OG Winter Classic.

Next up for the Indians is a Saturday night non-league tilt with visiting Botkins at Lappin Gymnasium.
