OTTAWA – Tuesday night Ottawa Glandorf opened the evening celebrating their four seniors and closed the night celebrating their fifth Western Buckeye League championship with an 11-0 win over Defiance.
“It’s always exciting to get a win on senior night and it’s extra special tonight as the win clinches an outright WBL title for us” said a jubilant Michelle Maag on her teams performance after the win.
OG celebrated the careers of seniors Lily Haselman, Emma Brinkman, Maggie Verhoff, and Clara Beach in a ceremony before the game as the quartet have amassed an overall record of 53-17-5 and a mark of 24-7-4 against the Western Buckeye League.
Junior Myka Aldrich kick started the party for the blue and gold just minutes in by striking her seventh marker of the season past Defiance sophomore keeper Eliza Ramirez to give the Titans a 1-0 lead at 36:24.
Under two minutes from the first score of the evening for OG came their next as sophomore standout Makenna Siefker slipped an offering from senior teammate Lily Haselman to the back of the net at 34:33 to up the advantage to 2-0.
Siefker notched her second of the night and 16th of the season with 31:01 remaining before the halftime break to put the hosts on top 3-0 and helped to set up Aldrich moments later for a blast of over 30 yards at 27:14 for a 4-0 lead on the Bulldogs.
Aldrich struck again with 19:33 to complete her first half hat trick by heading in a corner kick opportunity by Karsyn Erford to make it a 5-0 lead on the scoreboard.
Midfielder Mackenzie Recker pushed the score to 6-0 in favor of the blue and gold with 11:23 remaining before halftime as she kicked her 10th goal of the season through the box and pair of would be Defiance defenders.
Bri Douglass opened the scoring for Ottawa Glandorf in the second half thanks to a lead pass from senior Clara Beach to run the lead to 7-0 with under two minutes gone in the half.
Though the sign on the door informed everyone of the seniors being honored, the second half belonged to the sophomore Makenna Siefker as she booted through her third and fourth goals of the night just 2:24 away from one another to run her season total to 18 goals and give OG a 9-0 lead.
Senior Clara Beach pitched in her eighth goal of 2022 with 31:48 and was aided by Maya Heringhaus’ second and an assist from Douglass to push across the final two goals of an 11-0 victory.
Ottawa Glandorf’s senior keeper Emma Brinkman faced just one shot and made one save for the Titans seventh shutout in their last eight outings and their 12th of the year.
Defiance (1-13-1, 1-7) will return to action on Saturday as they play host to Bryan before ending the regular season next Tuesday when Wapakoneta visits Fred J. Brown Stadium.
For the first time since their first trip to the state finals in 2014 the Titans (12-1-2, 8-0) reign as Western Buckeye League champions with two regular season games to play. Saturday OG will take on Kalida at 10am in Kalida before hitting the road next Tuesday night for a 7pm conference tilt at Kenton.
Both games can be heard live on WZOQ Radio.
“I’m really happy for our girls, it’s been a while since Lady Titan Soccer brought home a league championship. We have two games in the regular season left that includes a league contest so there’s still work left to do. I’m proud of this group for achieving this goal and I’m looking forward to getting back to work and seeing what we can accomplish next” spoke Maag postgame.
