Sensabaugh brothers shine, Bearcats take down Titans

LIMA – Spencerville’s duo of Will and Owen Sensabaugh combined for 40 points on Saturday afternoon to help the Bearcats take down Ottawa Glandorf 56-35 at the Coach Q Holiday Classic.

Sophomore Will exploded for two triples and 10 points during a Bearcat run in the second quarter while big brother Owen hit for a dozen of his points in the third.

“I thought Owen and Will and Carder Orr did a great job tonight of leading, defending, and making plays,” exclaimed Spencerville head coach and proud papa Kevin Sensabaugh.

Spencerville (7-0) jumped out to an early 8-0 lead on baskets from Owen Sensabaugh, and a triple by Grady Smith in the opening 2:42 of the contest. Ottawa Glandorf’s leading scorer on the evening Brody Fortman got the Titans on the board for their only marker of the opening frame with a triple at 1:52 to cut the lead to 8-3.

Fortman, a 6’4 junior who tallied 18 points in the game for O-G erupted for nine in the second quarter but was unable to help the Titans draw back within single digits before the half as Will Sensabaugh dominated the second period for the Bearcats offensively.

Senior post Carder Orr, fresh off of a 19 point performance just a night before down the road at Lima Central Catholic scored six of his 11 before the half on a combination of post plays and fast break scores.

Perhaps fueled by the bad memories of a heartbreaking loss to the Titans in the same gymnasium in March, the Bearcats dominated the third stanza to send the contest 46-30 into the final eight minutes of play.

While holding Ottawa Glandorf to just five points in the fourth, Spencerville continued to put on a free throw shooting exhibition that saw their first 16 attempts fall through the net. Overall the Bearcats found makes on 19 of their 20 charitable tosses on the night, with 15 of 16 connecting in the second half.

Ottawa Glandorf (1-4) with the loss has their first three game losing streak since February of 2014 when they fell in road outings to St. Marys, Perrysburg, and Bath before rallying to advance to the regional semifinals and finishing 16-11.

Both teams will be back in action next weekend as the Bearcats travel south on Route 66 to take on St. Marys Friday. Ottawa Glandorf returns to the Supreme Court Saturday evening as they welcome Lima Central Catholic to Robert J. Hermiller Gymnasium for a non-conference clash.

“It was a different atmosphere than we are used to playing O-G in,” said Sensabaugh. “I was proud of our defensive effort. We weren’t great offensively tonight, but I thought we got the job done!”
