WAPAKONETA – Ottawa Glandorf forward Makenna Siefker kicked in three goals on Tuesday night to help her Titans run their regular season unbeaten streak to 20 games with a 4-0 win over host Wapakoneta.
Sixth ranked OG opened their scoring with 32:13 remaining in the opening half on a pass from Delaney Duling to Siefker who listed a shot past Redskin senior keeper Maddison Springer to notch her 50th career marker and put the visitors on top 1-0.
Three and a half minutes after her opening salvo the Titan junior struck once again as she snagged a pass from a teammate and weaved through a pair of defenders to give her squad a 2-0 lead they would carry into the halftime break.
“Wapak put us under some pressure in the first half but our defense did a good job minimizing their shooting opportunities” said OG head coach Michelle Maag about her teams first half performance.
Fueled by their relentless chase of the ball even during a sweltering evening at Ryan Field the Titans continued to flip the field early in the second half to put themselves in position to add to their advantage.
Racing through the red and white defense early in the final 40 minutes, Bri Douglass’ pass to senior classmate Mackenzie Recker gave the latter an opportunity she would waste no time cashing in on at 35:50 to push OG ahead 3-0.
Ottawa Glandorf’s final marker of the evening came with 24:08 from a Siefker top corner blast and gave the Titans their third different single game hat trick scorer of the season to go along with a 4-0 lead.
Sophomore goal keeper Karsyn Erford was challenged at times by the speedy Wapak front line but was able to collect her fifth consecutive shutout by stopping all three shots she faced.
“Tonight was an important league win for us against a fast Wapak squad. The second half had a better pace than the first. We turned up our defensive pressure and did a better job mixing up direct counter attacks with possession play” remarked Maag. “It’s a building block game as we get ready for our next league battle with Elida”.
In their last 14 conference clashes the Titans have now gone 14-0 and have outscored their opponents 98-0.
Next up for Wapak (5-1-1, 1-1) is a Thursday evening bus ride to visit Spencerville (hear live on Zsports3 at 7pm: https://www.christiannetcast.com/listen/player.asp?station=zsportslive) while the Titans who improved to 6-0 and 2-0 host Elida on Monday evening.
