KALIDA – Ottawa Glandorf senior Makenna Siefker notched a hat trick on Saturday afternoon and became just the third player in Putnam County history with 100+ goals as she helped lead her Titans to a 6-0 victory over rival Kalida.
Siefker joins Alex Hoeffel of Continental (2016-19) and current Columbus Grove Bulldog Lauryn Auchmuty in accomplishing the feat. Hoeffel finished her standout prep career as the OHSAA’s fifth all-time leading scorer with 168 markers while Auchmuty’s total currently sits at 116 goals, the 33rd best tally in state history.
“We had the opportunity to watch Makenna surpass another incredible achievement today as she hit the 100 goal mark” said Ottawa Glandorf coach Michelle Maag. “She entered our program as a fantastic freshman talent with a ton of potential, and has grown into that potential as her game has matured. She has developed really well into all that she is capable of today and I am so proud of her!”
O-G jumped on the Wildcats scoreboard early thanks to the first of three goals from the Titans senior standout who blitzed an offering around keeper Lauren Schulte to give her team a 1-0 lead just two and a half minutes into the contest.
Junior Delaney Duling was next up for the Titans on the visiting scoreboard with 24:12 to go before the break as the left footed striker lifted a shot around Schulte and the Wildcat defense for a 2-0 advantage.
Though the Wildcats (9-2) surrendered just four goals through their first 10 outings, the Titans would equal that mark themselves before the halftime stoppage on this day. A second goal from Siefker at 13:15, and a heartbreaking allowed marker for the hosts that slipped out of the fingers of Schulte and into the net from Maya Heringhaus with 9:36 to go equaled the previous goals given up on the year by Kalida.
“Today we were able to rotate a bit deeper into our bench and I liked how everyone brought their best effort when they were in the game” said Maag.
Early in the opening moments of the second half the Titans upped their lead to 5-0 as a redirected shot toward Schulte fell to the Czubik Field grass and was flipped home by Siefker for career goal 101 and her fourth hat trick of the season.
Senior forward Maya Heringhaus was credited with the final marker of the early afternoon for O-G thanks to a jumbled shot from just in front of the Kalida keeper that skipped off a Wildcat defender at 30:56 to start the running clock and give Heringhaus her second goal of the game.
“We played a good game from front to back today” said Maag. “I liked our creativity offensively with scoring and creating opportunities coming in a variety of way. Defensively I thought we won a majority of the 50/50 balls and set the tone with our pressure. We took a big step forward as a team today and showed good growth as we moved people around.”
Kalida sees their nine game winning streak since a season opening loss to Archbold come to and end that saw the Wildcats outscoring foes 40-1 with eight shutouts. Head coach David Kehres’ group returns to action on Thursday as they welcome 100+ goal scorer Rilynn Jones and the Allen East Mustangs in for a non-league affair.
Ottawa Glandorf’s return to Western Buckeye League play will see the Titans gas up the busses for long trips to Van Wert on Monday, and Celina on Thursday in search of getting to 7-0 in conference play.
