Titans Blank Cougars in Grothause Return

SYLVANIA – Three different Titans notched goals on Saturday afternoon to help Ottawa Glandorf to their second straight win.

Ottawa Glandorf Sophomore Brea Recker connected for the first and only goal of the first half with 36:16 on the scoreboard to give the visitors a 1-0 lead with her first career marker.

In an afternoon filled with raucous applause from the Titan faithful in attendance, no moment topped the one that took place eight minutes into the game. Senior Kaelyn Grothause, lost to injury in 2023 returned to the lineup for the first of her multiple shifts and received a thunderous applause.

“Saturday was Kaelyn’s first game back after a couple of years off with knee injuries and a lot of hard work at PT” said Titan mentor Michelle Maag. “Getting her in for some limited game minutes was special for both her and the team. She’s earned her chance to see what she can do in her senior year and it will be fun to see how she progresses.”

Led in goal by a 16 stop performance by junior keeper Ava Willis, the Cougars continued to hang in early in the second half down just 1-0. Willis stopped multiple point blank shots from the Titan offense and was aided by a strong defensive effort that themselves stopped a handful of potential goals inside the box.

Playing in the field for the first time this season and in the game, junior Karsyn Erford punched across her first goal since scoring five in her freshman year to give her troops a 2-0 advantage.

“We got off to a bit of a slow start today but found our way in the second half” said Maag.

Ottawa Glandorf added a pair of goals in the final 22 minutes of play as lanes opened up enough on lead passes to allow senior Makenna Siefker to net a pair of shots.

“We created a good number of opportunities, as the season progresses we will want to be more efficient at converting our chances to goals” reflected Maag on the afternoon.

Southview (2-2) sees their two game winning streak come to an end and will next be in action on Wednesday night in Bowling Green.

The Titans (2-1) next action kicks off Western Buckeye League play on Tuesday night at Kenton.

“We’re excited to see how we can improve from this game and take that into league play next week. WBL games bring an extra energy and we’re looking forward to the always tough Western Buckeye League schedule” finished Maag.
