KALIDA – Ottawa Glandorf continued their shutout streak against Kalida on Saturday morning in Kalida with a 6-0 victory to pick up their 13th win of the season.
Following an opening 21 minutes with shots hard to come by thanks to ferocious defense on both sides, the Titans etched their first tally on the scoreboard with 19:19 left before the halftime break as Makenna Siefker pitched her 19th goal of the season past Kalida keeper Kassidy Hipsher to put OG on top 1-0.
Ottawa Glandorf proved to be rude guests just :35 seconds later thanks to a marker from junior forward Bri Douglass at 18:44 to run the advantage to 2-0 set up by a loose ball and charge set up by teammates.
Trailing 2-0 early in the second half the Wildcats surrendered the unluckiest goal of the day as a bouncing ball from near the top of the box struck by freshman defender Savanah Recker redirected on a hop and roll past Hipsher to give Recker her first career varsity goal and a 3-0 lead at 31:10.
Eight corner kicks were taken by the visiting Titans in the contest with one at the 18:33 mark finding the net thanks to the head of Mackenzie Recker’s 11th marker of the season.
OG ran their lead to 5-0 with 16:27 showing on the Mark Czubik Field scoreboard on the 20th of the season for Makenna Siefker as she raced downfield through defenders and fired a rocket into the netting.
Similarly to the way in which her teammate found her first goal earlier in the half, junior Marissa Brown provided her own first to give the Titans a 6-0 lead with 11:05 remaining they would carry through to the final whistle.
Ottawa Glandorf has now won the past four meetings in the series, all by shutout since the Wildcats defeated the Titans 1-0 in 2018 and are 6-1-1 since the two teams first met on the pitch in the 2014 district finals in Celina.
Up next for the Wildcats (6-8) are a pair of games to determine the fate of the Putnam County League title with road games at Continental on Tuesday and Columbus Grove on Thursday.
Kenton on the road Tuesday night is all that remains for Ottawa Glandorf as they finish up the regular season (13-1-2) and attempt to end their conference play with a perfect 9-0 record.
Sunday afternoon’s tournament draw revealed the two teams could possibly meet up again if they both reach the Ottoville district finals on October 29th. Kalida will open on the 17th at 5pm against Ottoville while OG awaits the winner of Delphos St. Johns and Crestview.
“Today was a solid team win for the group. Our play got better as the game progressed and we put together a good second half. It’s always good to see even scoring distribution as five different players had goals today. This group is motivated to continue improving as we round out our regular season Tuesday night in Kenton” said Titan head coach Michelle Maag.
