Titans capture sectional title

OTTAWA – Thursday night might have been chicken and noodles night at Titan Stadium but it was the play of the Lady Titans who spiced up the evening as they raced to a 10-0 win over Delphos St. Johns.

OG began peppering Blue Jays sophomore goal keeper Evie Vonderwell with shots in the opening minute of the contest and continued deep into the night to the tune of 25 total chances.

Starting in place of injured leading scorer Makenna Siefker, Titan freshman Karsyn Erford kicked in the first goal of her career with 35:18 left in the opening half to put the host blue and gold ahead 1-o and signal the opening to what would be a career night.

Continuing to rush the goal with their seemingly never ending pressure the Titans added to their advantage with 27:10 from the top of the box thanks to a strike from Bri Douglass to the top corner to push ahead 2-0.

Playing in her final home game as a Titan, senior Clara Beach scored twice in a :15 span to become the fifth member of her team this season to reach double digit goals and to run the lead to 4-0 with 14:24 remaining before the halftime stoppage.

Erford joined the two goal club on the night with Beach at 8:08 showing on the stadium clock as she battered a ball past Vonderwell for the fifth Titan marker.

Senior spark plug Lily Haselman who has helped to initiate many goals for the OG offense in her four years continued the big first half as she lifted a shot into the net for a 6-0 lead and her 40th career marker with 5:14 to go. Haselman’s impact on the game was also felt throughout the evening as she handed out a trio of helpers to increase that total to a team high 14 this season.

Ottawa Glandorf’s final tally of the opening 40 minutes came as a result of their seventh corner kick of the first half thanks to junior Myka Aldrich who sprinted a redirected ball in front of the net through to give her squad a 7-0 mark with just :21 left.

Over the first ten minutes of the second half the Titans added a pair of players with hat trick goals in the form of Erford at 37:50 and Beach with 30:50 to take a 9-0 lead. Beach’s hat trick goal marked the 50th of her brilliant career while Erford’s score finished off her first career hat trick.

The final marker of the evening sent the Titans to their third game of 10 goals of more of the season at 27:48 thanks to Bri Douglass who kicked in her 17th goal of the campaign.

Delphos St. Johns ends their season with a record of 6-9-3 and will lose three seniors, Kalli Gillespie, Myah Boggs, and Lilly Vonderwell.

Ottawa Glandorf (15-1-2) is unbeaten in their last 15 outings (14-0-1) since suffering their lone loss of the season on August 24th and have outscored opponents 82-1 in the same span with 15 shutouts and a streak of 23 halves played without allowing a goal by an opposing team.

Next up for the Titans is a 7:15pm date on Tuesday evening with county rival Continental in Ottoville after the Pirates defeated Coldwater 2-1 on Thursday evening.

“The girls put together a good game tonight across all lines to grab the win. I thought we did a good job of playing out of pressure and taking what the defense gave us. It’s always good to see even scoring distribution with five different players scoring tonight, including Karsyn scoring her first varsity goal and hat trick. With the win we get the chance to continue practicing and finding ways to get better as we prepare for Continental on Tuesday” said Titan boss Michelle Maag.
