Titans finish unbeaten at home

GLANDORF – Ottawa Glandorf celebrated the birthday of their first year head coach Michelle Maag by outscoring Delta 8-1 to finish off a perfect 9-0 home campaign in Tuesday evening’s OHSAA tournament opener.

Entering play outscoring their opponents 95-7 through their first 16 games the Titans got their scoring started on this evenings with 32:48 left in the opening half as a pass from Lily Haselman found teammate Makenna Siefker in stride for her 18th marker of the season.

Ottawa Glandorf’s second goal of the game came with 14:50 on the scoreboard when Haselman herself joined the soon to be scoring bonanza by redirecting a Clara Beach shot into the net for a 2-0 Titans advantage.

Under a minute from her first goal of the game the OG junior midfielder scored for the second time when she snagged a Delta pass and raced through the Panthers defense to race a shot past keeper Teagan Postlewait for a 3-0 lead.

Titan leading scorer and 1st team Western Buckeye League selection Myka Aldrich netted her 20th goal of her sophomore campaign by blasting a shot from outside of 40 yards high and past Postlewait’s outstretched hands with 12:02 on the clock to make it 4-0 OG.

Clara Beach aided the final goal of the first half for the blue and gold hosts with 6:25 showing as she floated a pass through the defense that set up Siefker’s second strike at 5-0.

Delta’s lone goal of the contest came with 33:04 to cut the lead to 5-1 when sophomore forward Ella Demaline weaved through multiple Titan defenders to fire a shot high past OG starting keeper Emma Brinkman who started the game in place of injured senior Abby Warnecke.

Demaline’s goal was the first allowed by OG in 11 halves of play dating back to their lone goal given up on September 30th to Shawnee.

OG regained their five goal lead less than a minute later when a line drive by Clara Beach rocketed off the side post and into the middle of the net for a 6-1 advantage.

Lily Haselman finished off her hat trick on the night with 31:18 left as her shot glanced past Postlewait to give her 14 on the season at 31:18.

Ottawa Glandorf ended their scoring run at 27:13 to secure their ninth home victory of the season when Makenna Siefker became the second Titan to notch her 20th goal of the year, joining teammate Myka Aldrich as the first duo to accomplish the feat for the hosts in the same season.

Delta’s season comes to an end at 8-8-1 while the Titans move to 16-1 and will next be in action on Tuesday, October 26th at 7:15 P.M, when they travel to Evergreen H.S. to take on Swanton.

“I thought our team showed a lot of resilience tonight. We were thrown a couple curveballs with injuries right before the game that we adapted to. We’ve talked a lot this year about not making excuses so this was a good challenge for us to step up and put into practice what we believe in. I thought our play improved as the game went on. We did a better job playing out of pressure and connecting passes as the game progressed. I’m really proud of the group for finding a way tonight. Now our focus shifts to Swanton and making sure we are well prepared for that matchup” said OG head coach Michelle Maag on her teams performance.
