Titans rain down goals on Bulldogs

OTTAWA – Through a driving rain Thursday night Ottawa Glandorf raced to an 8-0 sectional finals win over visiting Swanton.

Celebrating head coach Michelle Maag’s birthday the blue and gold offense wasted no time offering their bench boss presents in the form of goals as WBL Player of the Year Myka Aldrich struck just :37 in for the first of her three goals on the night to put OG on top 1-0.

Leading scorer Makenna Siefker joined the Titans first half scoring barrage just over two minutes later to make it a 2-0 game with her 23rd goal of the season after dancing through the rain and would be defenders.

“We got out to a fast start tonight with two quick goals. It had been nine days since our last game so it was good to see that sharpness was still there” said Maag.

Siefker struck again with 27:39 remaining before the break by firing a shot past Swanton junior keeper Keagan Young to help OG jump in front 3-0.

Working from in front of a crowded net the Titans added their fourth tally to their evening total with 17:20 thanks to Aldrich’s second goal, a quick one timer goal from the senior standout.

Senior Bri Douglass finished the game a single assist short of tying the Titan record set by Katie Kiene and Kristin Bingley of five assists in a single contest as she ended with four helpers but also kicked in her 13th goal of the season with 13:31 left on a redirected shot to give the hosts a 5-0 advantage.

Ottawa Glandorf punched across their final marker of the opening 40 minutes with 7:05 left when Siefker notched her third hat trick of the season, finishing off a pass rom a teammate to make it a 6-0 score.

Early in the second half the Titans struck again from the foot of Aldrich to jump ahead 7-0 as she picked up her own hat trick, the first of the season with just three plus minutes gone.

Siefker ended not only the scoring for Ottawa Glandorf but the game itself with her fourth goal of the contest, a streaker top side for an 8-0 lead on the 72nd score of her career. Introduced this year by the OHSAA, when a team leads by eight goals in a postseason game, that game ends immediately.

Swanton’s season come to an end at 4-14 while OG’s (17-1) continues next Tuesday evening when they travel to Metamora to tangle with Liberty Center in a 7:15pm tilt.

“I thought we moved the ball well today and took what the defense gave us. We had some nice goals tonight but I’d like to see some improvement in our finishing consistency. We will work hard to stay focused on the task at hand which is a matchup with Liberty Center on Tuesday” said Maag.
