GLANDORF – Ottawa Glandorf remained unbeaten on the season Monday night as they defeated the visiting Celina Bulldogs 2-1 in girls soccer action.
Myka Aldrich got the Titans on the board at 29:57 as she headed in a long cross from a corner kick by teammate Lily Haselman that found it’s way behind Bulldog goalie Riley Seitz for her 11th marker of the season.
Both teams entered the evening with massive differentials in outscoring their opponents, OG at 57-5 and Celina at 46-14 and continued to utilize that fast paced offensive mindset to fly up and down the Titan Soccer Complex pitch.
Celina tied up the contest at 1-1 with 11:21 off of a Titan foul that saw a well placed top corner strike from Raven Harris race past OG keeper Abby Warnecke and a host of players from each side near the crowded net.
Although the Titans were celebrating Senior Night it was their prized freshman who would provide the positive ending they were seeking in the second half as a Makenna Siefker goal with 17:06 remaining in the second half pushed the home squads lead to 2-1.
Senior keeper and multiple year starter Abby Warnecke notched five saves for the Titans while her counterpart Riley Seitz stopped 10 of the 12 shots she faced on the evening.
Celina falls to 6-4-1 overall and sees their Western Buckeye League record drop to 5-2 on the season and will next be back in action on Saturday at 2:00 P.M. when they play host to Delphos St. Johns.
First year Ottawa Glandorf head coach Michelle Maag after the game remarked “It was another classic WBL battle tonight with Celina. Both teams fought really hard for 80 minutes, and our girls found a way to come out with a win on senior night. I thought there were stretches of the game where we defended really well across all the lines. We created enough chances to get two goals on the board and tonight that was enough to get the job done. Really proud of the team for their effort and always excited to get a great senior class a win on their senior night.”
Ottawa Glandorf is off to their best start as a program at 10-0 and moves to 5-0 in WBL contests with their first victory over Celina since 2015. The Titans will take their longest winning streak since a 12 game run when they reached the state finals in 2014 to Lima on Thursday night for a 7:00 P.M. tilt with unbeaten Shawnee in a game that could decide the league crown.
