Titans Run WBL Win Streak to 23

GLANDORF – Ottawa Glandorf started early and finished a white hot night late on Tuesday evening on their way to an 8-1 triumph against visiting Wapak.

“We got off to a fast start today and carried it through the first half” said Titan mentor Michelle Maag. “I thought we moved the ball well and had moments of great creativity while being aggressive when we were finishing service into the box.”

In the opening minute of play the high powered blue and gold offense tallied their first marker as senior Makenna Siefker punched across the first of her three goals on the night.

Siefker picked up her second goal of the game just seconds after teammate Maya Heringhaus slashed her first of the season through the net. Snagging a lead pass from teammate Delaney Duling, the Titans leading scorer headed in a shot to give OG a 3-0 advantage.

Just outside of 10 minutes remaining before the half it was Heringhaus who came knocking against the Redskin defense for her second goal as she raced an offering past Wapak keeper Gianna Staas to push ahead by four.

“Both Makenna and Maya proved to be some early offensive firepower for us, both scored on pretty clinical finishes” said Maag.

The Titans increased their lead to 5-0 with 5:43 remaining in the first half on a rocket from the foot of senior Carlie Brinkman.

Working her way through heavy defensive traffic, Makenna Siefker finished off the last leg of her first hat trick of the season at 26:13 to notch her 91st career marker and pull within two of the Titans career lead of 93.

Wapak’s lone bright spot offensively pulled the game within 6-1 with 24:14 showing on the stadium score clock as Gaby Muller sailed a ball over the head of Titan keeper Libbie Niese.

Two goals for the hosts in the final 8:50 found their ways to the net in different ways off of Titan set pieces. OG’s Delaney Duling redirected a corner kick offering from teammate Megan Horstman to go ahead 7-1 before Horstman herself bodied in a corner kick moments later for her second career score and first of the season.

“We slowed down a bit in the second half and I thought it hurt our momentum in the game” said Maag. “We have an objective coming into each game to go for the shutout, and while we didn’t get that tonight I think we learned a lot about ourselves about how we respond.”

Wapak (4-2, 1-1) drops their first match since their season opener with the loss and will next be in action on Monday against St. Marys.

Ottawa Glandorf (5-1, 2-0) takes their 23rd consecutive league play and despite giving up a goal has outscored conference opponents 160-2 in that span. Next up for the blue and gold is a trip to Elida for WBL action on Monday night.

“We got better tonight in a lot of areas. To see a defender get a goal is always a lot of fun, but we found a few more areas we want to improve at quickly” said Maag. “We have a usual than longer break between games this week so we are excited to have some time in practice to work some new things in.”
