OTTAWA – Western Buckeye League leader Ottawa Glandorf started white hot from beyond the arc as they dispatched visiting Celina Friday night at the Supreme Court 72-35 to remain unbeaten in conference play.
OG’s Hunter Stechschulte opened the scoring just seconds into the contest by racing through would be Bulldog defenders with just ten seconds gone and aided teammate Carter Schimmoeller on the next possession for a triple to make it 5-0 Titans with under a minute gone.
The hosts would run the lead to 11-0 close to mid way through the period on buckets by Caleb Kuhlman and Stechschulte a second time before the Bulldogs notched their first marker, a layup by senior Josh Rasawehr to cut the lead to 13-2 with 3:45 remaining in the period.
Turnovers by the Bulldogs and fast break points by the Titans pushed the advantage to 38-17 at the halftime stoppage via five knockdowns from behind the arc, three of which came from Schimmoeller. Classmate Eli Schmenk added the loudest boom of the first half as he sent the Robert J Hermiller Gymnasium crowd into a frenzy with a fast break slam dunk to punctuate the opening half for the blue and gold.
Celina’s Braylon Gabes connected for his third triple of the evening in the third period for one of just three makes from the field while the Titans Eli Schmenk and Landen Jordan splashed three point goals of their own in the stanza to keep the hosts ahead with a growing lead of 54-26 into the final eight minutes.
Ottawa Glandorf continued to add to their advantage in the fourth to 35 and institute the running clock with a couple of minutes to play on a run that included deep balls from Carson Fuka and sophomore Caden Erford who finished with all five of his points in the period.
Reserves Ty Buckland and Brad Maag notched their only basket of the game for OG late in the final minutes while Quinn Andrew finished off the scoring for the green and white with five of his own before the buzzer.
Celina (5-10, 2-4) was led in scoring by Braylon Gabes with 11 and will be in action on Saturday night as they travel to St. Henry to take on the Redskins in a non-conference clash.
OG (12-2, 6-0) remains the league’s only unbeaten team and will travel north to Rossford on Saturday night in a non-league tilt. The Titans were led by Carter Schimmoeller’s 14 points. Eli Schmenk (11) and Hunter Stechschulte (10) joined Schimmoeller in double figures to help the hosts knock off Celina for the seventh straight time.
