KENTON – Ottawa Glandorf finished their 2022 regular season finale with a bang on Tuesday night as they defeated Kenton 6-0 to finish with a perfect 9-0 WBL mark.
Through the Titans last 10 games of the season the defense and goal keepers Emma Brinkman and Elli McCrate allowed no goals from opposing offenses while also not surrendering a score from any of their nine Western Buckeye League opponents.
“The first team goal we set this year was to win the league, and all the girls put in a lot of time and effort to help us achieve that. Now we are back to a clean slate as we work even harder, one day at a time to go after our next goal” spoke OG boss Michelle Maag postgame on the first of her teams goals for this season.
On this night the Titans offense produced the first of the night early when leading scorer Makenna Siefker raced through multiple defenders to fire a shot into the net at 33:22 for her 21st of the season.
Working from one of their 11 corner kicks on the evening the blue and gold upped their lead to 2-0 with 21:20 remaining before the halftime stoppage thanks to a header by junior Myka Aldrich who became the fourth member of her team with 10 or more goals.
Set up by teammate Bri Douglass tip toeing down the goal line and drawing defenders, Clara Beach fired a shot past Kenton keeper Ruby Styer to with 8:33 showing on the scoreboard to push the Titans ahead 3-0.
Clara Beach continued to set up teammates for goals as she has done this season, this time Bri Douglass would be the recipient of a gift as a perfectly placed ball allowed her to again find the back of the net to provide a 4-0 advantage with 25:41 to go.
Moments after her first goal of the night Douglass, got herself into the scoring column with 24:07 by slicing her way through the Wildcat defense and firing a left footed shot to the top corner over the outstretched hands of Styer.
Ottawa Glandorf’s final goal of the night came with 22:30 from Myka Aldrich who sailed a shot from outside the top of the box high into the Kenton net to run the lead to 6-0.
“I’m so proud of this group for finishing league play strong tonight. We talked about how we wanted to finished WBL play without conceding a goal and it took everybody tonight and all season to accomplish that. We are a team built on defense so it’s exciting to see the growth we’ve had on that side of the ball during the regular season” opined Maag postgame.
Kenton ends the regular season with an 8-7-1 mark overall and a 3-4-1 record in WBL games. The Wildcats will open their tournament run next week when they battle Liberty Benton.
OG (14-1-2) ends with a perfect campaign of 9-0 in the conference and without a goal allowed over their final 21 halves of soccer. Next up for the Titans is a bye and a sectional finals matchup against either Delphos St. Johns or Crestview on October 20th.
