GLANDORF – Ottawa Glandorf continued their shut out streak on Saturday afternoon as they blanked visiting Liberty Benton 3-0 in a non-conference showdown of unbeatens.
OG opened the scoring with 34:11 remaining in the opening half on a blast by senior Mackenzie Recker to take a 1-0 lead. Recker’s marker was her fifth in the last three halves of play for the Titans.
“Mackenzie’s goal was a rocket to the near post which gave us some early confidence” said Titan head coach Michelle Maag on the first goal of the day.
Makenna Siefker notched the second goal for the host blue and gold at 6:27 before the half on a give and go from a teammate before racing a right footed effort around Liberty Benton keeper Natalie Parmalee for a 2-0 advantage.
Ottawa Glandorf’s final tally of the game came just before the half working off of a corner kick as an army of Titans rushed the net before a redirected ball from Emma Heringhaus bounced into the net for the freshman’s second goal of the season and a 3-0 lead.
Liberty Benton’s best two chances at a goal came in the second half on breakaways but were unsuccessful as Titan keeper Karsyn Erford turned away both shots with highlight level saves.
“We found a way to win today against a tough Liberty Benton squad. We had good stretches of play at the beginning of the first half and at the end of the first half” said Maag.
Finishing her outlook on the game Maag said “Games like today are great for team development. We do walk away from the game with a lot of areas identified that we need to be better at, including possession and defensive shape. Credit to Liberty Benton, they played really well today and put us in difficult situations”.
Liberty Benton (4-1) suffers their first setback of the season and will be in action next on Thursday Sept 7th when they host Upper Sandusky.
Ottawa Glandorf moves to 5-0 and will travel to Ryan Field on Tuesday night for a conference clash with Wapakoneta.
