White claims scoring crown in Titan win

OTTAWA – Friday night in front of a near capacity crowd OG senior Colin White became the all-time leading scorer in school and boys county history while helping his #2 ranked Titans to a 73-44 victory over visiting Van Wert.

Sitting on 13 points and two away from surpassing Ottawa Glandorf standout Tim Pollitz for the top spot White raced to the elbow and lifted a shot over a trio of Cougar defenders with 5:12 remaining to overtake the former Miami Redhawk with his 1,694th career point.

White, headed to play collegiately next season at Ohio State finished the game with 17 points to lead the game in scoring was handed a symbolic baton from Pollitz during a stoppage in play to honor the new recordholder.

Goedde held the record for career points from 1942 until he was surpassed by Pollitz in 2004 with 1,538.

Van Wert jumped out to a quick 6-2 advantage in the game on a run by freshman Keaten Welch but were unable to hold on to the lead as the duo of Alex Wagner and Grant Schroeder connected on triples to push the Titans into a lead they would never surrender.

Senior post Dave Westrick nearly blew the roof off of the Supreme Court with 5:39 remaining in the opening period when he returned from an injury and entered for the first time this season for OG. Westrick wasted no time getting himself in the scoring column after entering as just half a minute later he connected for the first of his two baskets on the night.

Conner Campbell kept the road team afloat offensively in the second period as he hit for nine of his 12 and teamed with Rylan Miller early to trim the deficit to one, 20-19. Unfortunately for the Cougars they would get no closer in the half on a run by Grady Toumazos, Brody Fortman, and a buzzer beating triple from Caden Erford.

White dominated the third quarter scoring for OG as he hit on a trio of free throws and shots from the field while helping to defensively hold the Cougars to just eight markers.

Seven different players scored for the blue and gold in the fourth quarter and finished off a 22-point outburst to give OG their third consecutive victory in a row and over Van Wert.

Van Wert (3-13, 0-5) was led by Campbell’s 12 and Kaden Shaffer’s 10 and will be back in action on Saturday when they welcome Coldwater in for a non-league clash.

Ottawa Glandorf (13-2, 5-0) remains unbeaten in WBL play this season and wins their 25th straight game at home, the site of their Saturday evening clash with Berlin Hiland. White led the way with 17 but was joined by a trio in double figures led by Grant Schroeder with 13 and flanked by the duo of Grady Toumazos and Caden Erford with 12 each.
