OTTAWA – Colin White tied and broke the Ottawa Glandorf single game scoring record in a span of just over a minute on Friday night as he tossed down two slam dunks on the way to 44 points in the Titans 78-44 victory over St. Marys.
White, a 6’6 junior scored the first two of the evening for the host Titans and continued to score for his squad as he accounted for a trio of three point goals and 15 of his teams 20 markers in the opening eight minutes of play.
St. Marys grabbed a 6-5 lead with 4:00 left in the first quarter on Ohio State signee Austin Parks first dunk of the night but were unable to slow down White who opened with the first 13 OG points of the contest. Hunter Stechschulte’s triple just in front of the buzzer pushed the lead to 20-10.
Ottawa Glandorf continued to run their offense through White in the second quarter as he again amassed a 15 point period that saw a pair of triples and a trio of successful free throw tosses be amongst his run against the Rider defense.
Held to just a pair of baskets early in the quarter from Cobain Owens and Parks, the Roughriders finished the opening half watching the Titans totals pile up on the scoreboard while themselves remaining scoreless over the final 5:16.
Junior Caden Erford’s triple and White’s final basket of the first half sent the two teams into the locker room with a 40-14 OG lead behind 30 points from Colin White.
Brayden Sullivan looked to bring his offense back into the game in the third quarter as he knocked down a trio from behind the arc but outside of a second dunk, a baseline spin and slam from Parks not much went the way of the visiting blue and gold in the period.
Theo Maag, a 6’7 senior mostly tagged with guarding Parks in the post emerged as a scorer in the third as he accounted for six of his nine on the evening. Caden Erford’s pair of triples and baskets by White and Grant Schroeder sent the crowd into a frenzy and the Titans to a 61-36 advantage heading to the fourth.
All but two points, a basket by Parks in the final eight minutes came from the free throw line for St. Marys from Parks and sophomore Brennan Steger in the closing seconds.
Nearing the record and with a running clock soon to be in effect, the Titans turned the ball again over to White who flushed through two dunks and a triple to break the previous school record of 42 points held by Ryan Maag (vs Swanton 1995), and Tyson Kerner (1998 vs Celina) before a round of applause and a trip to the bench for the final three minutes of play.
St. Marys (4-5, 1-2) has now dropped nine straight to Ottawa Glandorf and falls in their third in a row this season. Led by Austin Parks with 19 the Riders will next be in action on Saturday night as they host Versailles.
Ottawa Glandorf remains unbeaten in the WBL at 3-0 and improves to 8-2 overall. Saturday night the Titans will host Findlay in a non-league affair.
