Ottawa Glandorf senior Colin White was rewarded Sunday with his third straight Western Buckeye League Player of the Year award while head coach Tyson McGlaughlin was tabbed as the conference’s top coach.
White, a 6’6 senior headed to The Ohio State University is averaging 23.9 points per game, 8.0 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 2.5 steals a game while helping to lead his Titans to a 19-3 record and a third consecutive WBL trophy. In addition to breaking the school record for points in a career, the future Buckeye took down both the boys and girls records for most points that previously belonged to Tim Pollitz and Karla Wenzlick.
Joining White on the first team is senior teammate Caden Erford, a key cog in the OG machine who leads the team in three pointers made with 54 this season in addition to his 70 makes during his junior campaign.
St. Marys senior Evan Angstmann, a near 1,000 point scorer for the Roughriders joins the Titan trio and is accompanied by Elida’s Zori Island, Celina’s Braylon Gabes, and Shawnee standout Beckett Bertke on the league’s top squad.
Second team honors went to A’mari Wash (Elida), Gavin Payne (Kenton), Trevick Bertke, Cash Schadl (Wapak), and Jace Turner of St. Marys.
OG junior Grady Toumazos and Elida’s David Etzkorn kick off the third team list alongside Caleb Gabes (Celina), Antonio Lopez (Defiance), Ethan Yoder (Kenton), and St. Marys Noah Payne.
2023-24 Honorable Mention recognition went to a player from each of the the 10 conference members led by Bath’s Zavier Tickle. Celina’s Kaiden Werntz, Brogan Castillo of Defiance, Elida’s Jackson Covault, Kenton’s Blaine Bushong, Grant Schroeder of OG, Shawnee’s Dominic Lynch, Cobain Owens of St. Marys, Kaden Shaffer of Van Wert, and Wapakoneta’s Nate Metzger.
