Wildcats remain unbeaten

SPENCERVILLE – Miller City kept their record unblemished on the season as they picked up a Saturday afternoon non-league 3-0 victory against host Spencerville at Memorial Field.

The Wildcats kicked off the scoring early in the contest as a shot from junior Taylor Wilhelm raced past Bearcat goaltender Jaelynn Boop with just :50 gone for a 1-0 Miller City advantage.

Early in the second half the visitors upped their lead to 2-0 as a shot by Lexi Huerman off of a redirected shot from a teammate was sent into the net past Boop at 33:22.

Spencerville’s lone chance to score in the game came midway through the second half as a foul just outside the corner of the box led to a kick from Bearcat junior Sydney LeMar that was corralled by keeper Liz Otto.

A final marker for Miller City hit the Memorial Field scoreboard with 17:22 remaining when Huerman snagged a loose ball and fed teammate Ava Rosengarten for a point blank blast and a 3-0 advantage.

Bearcat coach Kathy Goecke remarked of her team “They all played very hard in the heat with no subs and a few playing through injury. After the first goal at kick off we woke up and held a good team to two goals. With so many new players to soccer we continue to improve as before today four was the lowest amount of goals we had given up in a game.”

Spencerville sees their record fall to 0-7 on the season and will be back in Northwest Conference action on Monday at 5:00 P.M. as they play host to Crestview.

“I thought we played pretty good today. We controlled the ball well but needed to be a little quicker taking shots on goal. I take my hat off to Spencerville for battling today with only 11 players, they battled until the end and gave it everything they had” remarked Wildcat bench boss Kurt Rosengarten.

Up next for Miller City (5-0-3) is a Thursday evening trip to Bluffton for a 7:00 P.M. non-league tilt against the Pirates.
