OG wins 20th straight home game

OTTAWA – Ottawa Glandorf jumped out to an early 10-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back as they downed visiting Lima Senior on Monday night at Robert J. Hermiller Gymnasium for their 20th straight regular season and home victory 53-32.

Lima Senior, playing their fourth game in seven days turned the basketball over nine times in the opening period and watched as their hosts amassed a double digit lead behind the duo of Erin Kaufman and Ella Okuley who would each pump in four points during the opening five minutes of the game.

Senior Cheyanne Bean notched the first Spartans point of the game with 2:20 left in the first stanza to cut the lead to 10-2 before being joined by Nakiya Sigman before the buzzer to trim the lead to 14-4 at the buzzer.

OG’s Erin Kaufman struck again in the post for the Titans in the second quarter by accounting for six of her ten first half points as well as handed out a pair of assists to teammates Chloee Glenn and sister Katie Kaufman, celebrating her 15th birthday for scores.

Spartans sharpshooter Samya Wright connected on the only shot from behind the arc for Lima Senior in the first half with 2:32 remaining to cut into the Titan lead at 23-9 just moments before Glenn pushed in a shot following an offensive rebound just in front of the buzzer to give the hosts a 27-11 halftime advantage.

In the third quarter the offense for the visitors moved to almost exclusively behind the arc as Sigman and Wright tossed in a trio of makes from three but were unable to stop Anna Siekfer (3), and Chloee Glenn (4) from keeping the Titans on top by double digits heading into the final quarter.

Led by their ability to go deep into their bench and utilize 10 or more players during a game, Ottawa Glandorf continued to utilize their hectic pressure defense to force Lima Senior miscues and turn them directly into points on the opposite end.

Baskets by Kelsey Erford, Erin Kaufman, Katie Kaufman, Chloee Glenn, and a three point play by Ella Okuley punctuated the fourth period run by the Titans who finished off the 21-point victory to remain undefeated.

Lima Senior (2-3) was led in scoring by All-Ohio guard Nakiya Sigman with 13 points for a Spartans program that will next be in action on Saturday when they take on city rival Lima Central Catholic.

Ottawa Glandorf moves to 6-0 on the season and will find themselves off until Saturday afternoon when they travel to Arlington to battle the Red Devils after being informed their Western Buckeye League tilt on Thursday against Elida has been postponed until a later date.

Erin Kaufman led the hosts with 14 points for her third double figure game of the season and the 21st of her career.
