5 scorers send Titans past Falcons

LIMA – Ottawa Glandorf used five goals from five different players on Tuesday night in frigid weather to advance to the regional finals as they dispatched Riverdale 5-0.

Facing both nearly 20 mile per hour wind gusts and a tenacious defense from Riverdale the Titans found themselves with early opportunities hard to come by.

Setting up off of one of their 20 corner kicks on the evening the blue and gold finally broke through on the scoreboard as a lift from Delaney Duling was punched in off the bounce from the Shawnee Stadium turf by senior Myka Aldrich for a 1-0 lead at 23:43.

Riverdale’s best chance to tie the contest came in the first half but was stopped by OG sophomore keeper Karsyn Erford to keep game scoreless.

“Karsyn made a huge save to keep the score at 0-0” said Titan head coach Michelle Maag.

Nearly at the exact point of Aldrich’s 22nd of the season in the second half the Titans ran their lead to 2-0 thanks to junior Makenna Siefker who blitzed a ball past a crowded net and Falcons keeper Anjelina Sierra with 22:31 remaining.

“We earned 20 corners on the night which shows the attacking mindset of the game. We did score on multiple corners on the night but I’d like to convert them at a higher rate. Bri (Douglass) and Delaney (Duling) had good service into the box on corners for most of the game” opined Maag.

Utilizing their pressure and speed the Ottawa Glandorf offense pushed ahead to 3-0 with 11:35 to go in the form of Bri Douglass who added a goal to go along with her assist on the night.

Goals in the final three minutes of play by Mackenzie Recker and the first of the season from junior Katelyn Reed provided the final notches of the evening for OG who ended the game with a 5-0 victory.

Sophomore midfielder Delaney Duling led the Titans in assists in the game as she tossed a quartet of helpers to her teammates.

Riverdale (10-6-5) sees their second regional appearance in school history and as many years come to an end at the hands of the Titans. Next up for Ottawa Glandorf (20-1) is a Saturday afternoon 12pm regional finals matchup with Eastwood.

“A solid win tonight against a tough Riverdale squad. We are on to the regional finals against a strong Eastwood squad. Our focus will be on making sure we are very prepared for that matchup” said Maag.
