Buddelmeyer out duels Riders

ST. MARYS – Friday evening a pitchers duel broke out between Ottawa Glandorf and St. Marys starters Jaxon Buddelmeyer and Braeden Trogdlon that ended with a 2-1 Titan victory.

Working against a big hitting OG lineup Trogdlon worked his way through the first six hitters he faced on the afternoon on 27 pitches and kept his side of the slate clean with a trio of strikeouts and no hits allowed.

Making his second start of the season Buddelmeyer opened the bottom of the first by allowing a walk to Trogdlon himself but shut down the remaining eight Roughrider hitters through the third to keep the contest scoreless.

Ottawa Glandorf designated hitter Landen Jordan broke up the Riders no hit bid with one out in the third inning as he slapped a Trogdlon offering into right centerfield for a double to give the Titans their first baserunner. Jaxon Buddelmeyer helped his own cause at the plate just a pair of pitches later as he knocked in Jordan for the first run of the contest with a single that turned into a three base trip thanks to a Rider miscue.

Lead-off hitter Carter Schimmoeller’s RBI groundout pushed the OG lead to 2-0 before the inning came to an end with an Alex Macke ground out.

Trailing 2-0 entering their at bat in the fourth, St. Marys shortstop Adam Tobin raced a ball into the outfield to open the frame for his teams first hit and quickly found himself moving on the bases thanks to a balk and a wild pitch.

Joey Caldwell’s fly ball down the line into foul territory into deep right field notched the only run of the game for St. Marys as Tobin scurried home on a catch made by Nate Maag for OG to cut the lead to 2-1 for the hosts.

After allowing a walk to Trevor Schimmoeller just before the end of the third, Trogdlon retired the next eight batters he faced into the sixth before surrendering a hit and a hit by pitch to Schimmoeller and Macke respectively before a line out and a ground out ended the inning with no damage done.

The Riders biggest chance to tie the game or take the lead came in the fifth inning as a pair of singles by Logan Hale and Ty Kiehl with one out put a pair of blue and gold jerseys on the bases but was shut down before a run crossed the plate on a ground out by Trogdlon.

St. Marys final six hitters in their last two at bats were sent down in order by Buddelmeyer who induced a pair of ground balls and a quartet of strikeouts to end the ballgame at just 1:24 minutes after it began.

Ottawa Glandorf improves to 9-4 on the season and 4-0 in the Western Buckeye League while St. Marys falls to 7-6 overall and 1-3 in league play.

Next up for the Riders is a Saturday afternoon doubleheader at Benjamin Logan that will see them battle the Raiders in game one and rival Celina in the second contest while OG travels to Wauseon for a single Saturday tilt.
