Erford record night helps Titans to win

OTTAWA – Senior Caden Erford accomplished something Friday night no Ottawa Glandorf Titan had ever done before when he connected on 10 three point goals en route to an 87-53 win at the Supreme Court.

Erford kicked off his career high 36 point night in the first quarter by knocking down the first two of his Ottawa Glandorf record 10 from beyond the arc. OG’s 6’4 senior continued his hot shooting through the second period where he ran his total to five triples to help push the blue and gold ahead 42-28 at the break.

Adding to his own lore at Robert J. Hermiller Gymnasium, senior Colin White connected on five straight free throws across the first three periods to break the OG record for consecutive makes of 31, previously held by Owen Hiegel and later 33 held previously by Continental’s Kurtis Brown. White finished with 31 points in the game but saw his streak end with 35 in a row on his new record with a miss in the third quarter.

Having already hit for 17 in the first half and adding two more from deep to his night in the third, Erford tied the school record of nine set by TJ Metzger twice in 2013 before moments later hitting from the corner to tie the all-time Putnam County record of 10. Tayt Birnesser (twice) of Columbus Grove, and Aaron Lammers of Miller City are the only other players to have hit double digit shots in a game previous to Erford joining the list.

Celina got on the scoreboard with 6:32 on a Grant Duncan runner in the first but saw baskets hard to come by in the opening minutes as they trailed 17-9 after eight minutes. During the second quarter however Bulldog sharpshooter Lennon Cisco torched the Supreme Court nets for three triples of his own on the way to all 13 of his points in the game.

Braylon Gabes snatched the reigns of the Celina (10-7, 4-2) scoring lead in the third quarter. Gabes hit a trio of shots from beyond the arc in the stanza while adding a fourth in the last period on the way to a team high 20 points.

Next up for the Bulldogs is a Saturday night trip to St. Henry to take on the Redskins.

Ottawa Glandorf (15-2) improves to 7-0 in Western Buckeye League play and has now won 26 in a row at home. The Titans will travel to Lima next Friday night for a WBL showdown with fellow unbeaten Shawnee.
