COLUMBUS GROVE – Monday evening the Columbus Grove girls soccer team defended their home to the tune of a 6-0 victory against NWC rival Ada.
Neither team was able to grab a lead early on and found themselves chasing their opponent up and down the pitch through the first nearly twenty minutes of the contest.
Columbus Grove reached the scoreboard with 22:34 left in the opening half of play for the only goal scored by either team on a shot by junior Maddie Thompson past Ada keeper Olivia Green to put the home dogs on top 1-0.
Though they might have been embroiled in a defensive struggle in the first half, Columbus Grove notched a second goal in the contest quickly to begin the second half of play thanks to their leading scorer Kenzie King who knocked home her seventh goal of the season for a 2-0 lead at 38:37.
King struck again just moments later for her second goal of the day and eighth of the season to put the Bulldogs on top 3-0.
The home team picked up steam scoring in the final eleven minutes of the game as three goals would find the way to the back of the Ada net.
Hannah Schroeder was the first to push the Columbus Grove advantage as she sent a high crossing shot past Olivia Green and into the bottom left of the goal with 10:50 remaining to send the score to 4-0.
Columbus Grove’s final two goals came from Savanah Ridenour on a lead pass she struck into the bottom left corner across the defense with 7:32 remaining, and a bouncing ball on a rush into the net with 5:50 to go for the final score and a 6-0 lead.
On the evening the home Bulldogs outshot the visitors 21-3 overall and held an 18-2 advantage in shots on goal.
Ada (2-6) will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to take on Cory-Rawson while Columbus Grove improves their record on the year to 7-4 and will travel to Celina on Thursday for a non-league matchup with the Bulldogs.
