Haselman 2 goals lift Titans to WBL win

GLANDORF – Ottawa Glandorf sophomore Lilly Haselman notched two goals in just under three minutes in the second half on Tuesday evening as she helped her Titans down visiting Wapak 3-2 in a Western Buckeye League contest.

The home squad reached the scoreboard first in the game on a goal from senior striker Kelsey Erford with 17:27 remaining in the first half and held their 1-0 lead until the Redskins broke even on a goal of their own from Erika Lisi, a freshman forward with 13:05 to go before the halftime stoppage.

Wapakoneta goal keeper Allie Wilson found herself under fire for parts of the first half by an aggressive Titan attack but held strong as she turned away several kicks with highlight reel saves early in the second half to keep the contest tied at 1-1.

OG’s Lilly Haselman put the home squad up 2-1 with 23:30 as she raced a ball from nearly 40 yards out behind the left top corner of the box past the outstretched hands of Wilson for the first of her two goals.

Nearly three minutes after becoming the second Titan to notch her 10th goal of the season, Haselman struck again from nearly the same spot at 20:42 with a rocket to the back of the net for a 3-1 OG advantage.

Though their opportunities in the second half had been mostly stopped by the Titan defense, the Redskins continued to push through with their speed on the opposite end of the field and found themselves rewarded with a goal to get within 3-2 with 4:46 to go as Hannah Wood continued to chase a bouncing ball that came out of the hands of Abby Warnecke into the back of the net for a Wapak marker.

On the evening the Titans fired 18 shots on net while the Redskins amassed just seven.

Wapak’s Wilson turned away 15 OG attempts while Abby Warnecke stopped five of the six shots sent her way.

The Redskins (5-5-5) will enter Division 1 OHSAA tournament play on 10/21 as they travel north on I-75 to battle Perrysburg.

Ottawa Glandorf (10-3-3) will host the winner of Swanton and Otsego on 10/22 in their tournament opener.

Junior Varsity’s matchup was won 3-0 by the Titans.
