Jackets sting Titans in state ranked tilt

PERRYSBURG – Monday evening’s state ranked battle between #2 Ottawa Glandorf and #5 Perrysburg was an early struggle but became a big night for Perrysburg sophomore Emma Ogdahl who led her team to a 4-1 victory.

Ogdahl opened the scoring for Perrysburg as part of a four goal night with just four minutes gone by burying a shot on the run just past the outstretched hands of Titan keeper Karsyn Erford.

The goal not only put the Yellow Jackets ahead 1-0 but signaled the first time this season Ottawa Glandorf trailed an opponent at any point in a game.

OG responded after trailing for 14:20 with a goal from senior midfielder Mackenzie Recker who bodied in a redirected kick from teammate Myka Aldrich to tie the contest at 1-1.

“We got the competitive game we were looking for tonight but unfortunately came out on the wrong side of the result” said Titans coach Michelle Maag.

Just :24 into the second half the Yellow Jackets grabbed a lead they would not relinquish as Ogdahl netted her second marker of the blustery evening for a 2-1 host advantage.

“Giving up a goal immediately after halftime was tough. We will have to be better in those key moments of the game as we move forward” said Maag.

Unfortunately for the Titans Ogdahl had a pair of goals left up her sleeve and cashed in two with the clock in the final four minutes. Perrysburg’s sophomore grabbed the teams goal lead at 4:41 with her 16th of the season and added the final score of the night just under a minute later with 3:55 to go for a 4-1 victory to keep her team unbeaten.

“Emma Ogdahl was lights out tonight and all over the field, we had a hard time containing her. She has great speed and fantastic technical ability. It was an important experience for our team to face not only a player like that but a team of this caliber. We’ve learned a lot about how and where we can improve as we finish up our regular season on Tuesday” finished Maag.

Perrysburg (14-0-1) will travel to battle Anthony Wayne on Saturday to determine the NLL champion while Ottawa Glandorf (15-1) who suffered their first regular season loss since falling to the Yellow Jackets on August 24th last season heads to Defiance Tuesday for a WBL showdown.
