Kaufman named WBL Player of the Year

OTTAWA – Sunday afternoon Ottawa Glandorf senior Erin Kaufman was named as the Western Buckeye League’s Player of the Year but the conference’s coaches.

Kaufman, a senior headed to play college basketball in Northeast Ohio at Malone University becomes the seventh Titan in the past nine seasons to win the award and joins a list that includes Kelsey Erford (2020), Erin Kaufman (2019), Kadie Hempfling (2018), Kadie Hempfling and Kylie White (2017), Kadie Hempfling (2016), and Kristen Miller (2014).

Leading the way for the Titans (16-7) at 11.9 points per game Kaufman became the most recent member of the OG 1,000 point club on February 8th at Archbold and has been the center piece of a senior class that has compiled an 89-14 overall record that features a 34-2 mark against the WBL.

Joining Kaufman on the first team are Shawnee sophomores Zoe Best and Grace Freiberger of the Co-WBL Champion Indians. Bath senior Ava Craddock who picked up her 1,000th career marker in a loss at OG this season is joined by St. Marys fifth all-time leading scorer and senior Kendall Dieringer and Van Wert junior Sofi Houg.

Second team honors went to Bath junior Rachel Clark, Elida junior Addisyn Freeman, Ottawa Glandorf sophomore Katie Kaufman, St. Marys senior Noelle Ruane, Van Wert junior Kyra Welch, and Wapakoneta senior Addy Allen.

Third team awards were given to juniors Elena Oliver (Bath), Taylor Klingshirn (Celina), Mira Horvath (Defiance), and Cece Worsham of Shawnee. Elida senior Elli Mitchell and Wapak senior Nikane Ambos rounded out the squad.

Honorable Mention honors were handed out to Bath sophomore Claire Foust and juniors Kyilla Billingsley (Celina), Bella Lopez (Elida), Tatum Miller (Kenton), Ania Pearson (Shawnee), and Ottawa Glandorf’s Chloee Glenn who averaged 19 points per game through the Titans first four before being lost for the rest of the season.

Seniors Olivia Moats (Defiance), Karsyn McGlothen (St. Marys), Carlee Young (Van Wert), and Allie Wilson of Wapak finished up their prep careers with the honorable mention nods.

Head coaches Troy Yant of Ottawa Glandorf and Rachel Rumbaugh of Shawnee split the conference’s Coach of the Year award as the duo both ended their campaign at 8-1 in league games.
