OG shuts out Liberty Center in district semis

METAMORA – Ottawa Glandorf notched their 16th shutout of the season Tuesday night at Evergreen High School in a 6-0 win over Liberty Center to advance to the district finals on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore goal keeper Karsyn Erford faced just three shots on the evening as a stingy Titan defense repelled would be opportunities from the Tiger offense.

“It was a big of a choppy game so I was glad to see us settle down in the second half. I thought our wingers did a good job of controlling play during that stretch” said Titan third year head coach Michelle Maag.

OG opened up their own scoring with a cross from Bri Douglass and a perfect bounce for a one timer opportunity for freshman Emma Heringhaus’ 10th goal of the season to take a 1-0 advantage at 38:07.

The Titans added to their lead at 26:40 on a lead this time from Heringhaus to Douglass who smashed a shot past Tiger keeper Maddie Sattler to run the advantage to 2-0 and give Douglass her 14th marker of the year.

Junior standout Makenna Siefker joined the blue and gold goal parade in the first half with 20:55 on the stadium scoreboard for the first of her three goals on the evening on a pass from Mackenzie Recker and a bottom shelf shot.

Moments before the halftime horn the Titans punched in their fourth and final goal of the first 40 minutes after both Bri Douglass and Mackenzie Recker lost a pair of defenders with a crossover and the latter finished top corner her 16th of the season at 3:45 to go.

“We got off to a good start tonight with a quick goal and were dangerous in the first half. We sent a few too many shots over the crossbar but credit the girls for creating opportunities” said Maag.

Early in the second half Ottawa Glandorf instituted the running clock with a 6-0 lead thanks to Siefker’s final two tallies of the night, a point blank bottom corner look at 36:06, and a final shot with 32:33 off a Douglass lead to notch her sixth hat trick of the season.

“We have Delta up next for a district final. Delta is a great opponent and the district finals are always tough so we will be at our best in preparation this week” finished Maag’s thoughts on the evening.

Liberty Center finishes their season with a record of 7-9-1 while the #2 ranked Titans move to 18-1 on the season and into a matchup with Delta in Metamora on Saturday at 3pm in the district finals.
