DEFIANCE – Ottawa Glandorf officially wrapped up their 21st straight conference victory and 9-0 Western Buckeye League season on Tuesday night at Defiance’s Fred Brown Stadium with a 6-0 win over the host Bulldogs.
“I’m so proud of our girls for grabbing a win tonight and finishing league play undefeated. The WBL is such a tough league to win and for the girls to accomplish that in undefeated fashion is a testament to all of their hard work” said OG third year head coach Michelle Maag.
Less than two minutes into the contest the visitors snagged the first lead of the evening after a shot from Mackenzie Recker ricocheted away from Defiance keeper Eliza Ramirez to the waiting foot of Makenna Siefker who kicked the ball into the net to give her team a 1-0 advantage.
Siefker, the Titans leading scorer on the season struck again for her second of the night and 22nd of the season with 37:29 remaining in the opening half of play on a pass from sophomore teammate Delaney Duling.
OG ran their lead to 3-0 with 28:40 remaining before the break thanks to freshman forward Emma Heringhaus who swiped a pass from a Bulldog and raced up the field to deposit her eighth marker of the season past a diving Ramirez.
“We got out to a fast start tonight and then cooled down before finding a goal just before the half” said Maag.
The final goal of the half for the Titans came with just 2:07 showing on the stadium scoreboard as a corner kick from Duling provided the opportunity for senior Myka Aldrich to cash in on her 17th goal of the year and run the lead to 4-0.
Working off one of their 11 corner kicks in the game the Titans jumped out to a 5-0 mark halfway through the second half when sophomore Liv Grothause booted a ball through the net.
Ottawa Glandorf’s final score of the evening also came from a corner kick opportunity as with 14:36 a lead to Emma Heringhaus found the back of the net and implemented the running clock in the contest with the six goal advantage for the Titans.
Defiance’s net minder Eliza Ramirez stopped 11 shots on the evening and showcased her ability between the posts as she turned away four point blank opportunities from Ottawa Glandorf at the net.
The Bulldogs (2-12-2) drop their third straight contest and will open up tournament play on the road at Celina next Tuesday after a trip to Lima on Thursday evening to face the Senior High Spartans to close out the regular season.
Ottawa Glandorf (16-1, 9-0) defeats Defiance for the 15th straight time and will be off until they begin the postseason when they welcome Swanton to Titan Stadium on Thursday, October 19th with a 6pm start time.
“We will enjoy the league title tonight but tomorrow we get back to work. We have a stretch of practice time before the tournament opener and I think we can be a much improved team by the next game by working hard to keep getting better” finished Maag.
