GLANDORF – Ottawa Glandorf senior Mackenzie Recker collected a career high four goals on Tuesday evening as the Titans routed visiting Kenton 10-0 to kick off WBL play.
“I liked the energy and pace we came out with to start the game. We moved the ball well and had four different scorers as a result” said Titan boss Michelle Maag.
Fast and furious came the Titan goals in the first half as a marker from Delaney Duling’s left foot with 38:55 set in motion a five goal opening that spanned just 7:02 from start to finish for the hosts.
Reigning first team WBL selection Bri Douglass provided the next two goals for OG as she set up teammate Myka Aldrich (38:33), and scored on a pass from Duling with 37:34 on the clock to push the advantage to 3-0.
The final pair for Ottawa Glandorf’s 5-0 lead came from Recker who lofted a ball just high enough to miss the outstretched fingers of Kenton keeper Ruby Styer (33:24) and on a lightning quick shot racing through traffic (31:53) for half of her goals on the evening.
“Usually good things happen when you keep your shots on frame. We had a solid night when it came to converting our shots to goals” expressed Maag on her teams ability to score early.
Following a penalty just inside the box with 25:33 remaining in the half the Titans moved to a 6-0 lead on a penalty kick goal from Douglass and to 7-0 just moments later as Duling took a give and go from Makenna Siefker to the left side and drove a shot into the net.
Recker’s second half goals with 35:40 and 17:34 remaining in the contest continued to push the Titan advantage and even showcased a little bit of luck as her hat trick goal careened off the side post and in on the opposite side of Styer.
Myka Aldrich tossed in her second goal of the evening at 22:56 for the blue and gold who saw the standout notch her sixth goal of the season with the score.
“I would be shocked if those girls don’t make it back to state and don’t win,” first-year Kenton coach Toby Brown said. “It’s pretty ridiculous how good they are.” “It wasn’t like they took 40 shots, they were very well coached to be very patient. They took their time and took their shots when they needed to and made them count, that’s for sure,” Brown said.
Kenton falls to 0-6 on the season with the loss and suffers their first setback in Western Buckeye League play. The Wildcats will jump back to action in non-league style on Saturday as they travel to take on Riverdale.
Ottawa Glandorf (4-0, 1-0) opens defense of their 2022 league championship with the win and have won 13 straight conference clashes by a combined score of 95-0 dating back to their last setback in September of 2021.
“Our depth was another important factor today. We had a lot of players rotate through the lineup tonight and were able to keep possession with a variety of personnel combinations on the field. Now we go back to the practice field for the week as we prep for Liberty Benton on Saturday” stated Maag.
The Titans have defeated the Wildcats in 20 of 22 all-time meetings with a pair of ties mixed in and have outscored Kenton 133-9 while posting 15 shutouts in the series.
