Siefker, Douglass lead Titans past Indians

GLANDORF – Ottawa Glandorf stomped on the gas pedal Thursday night in their Western Buckeye League battle of unbeatens with Shawnee and raced past the Indians 6-0 to remain the only unbeaten in the conference at the Titan Soccer Complex.

Though it felt like a crisp fall night outside, Ottawa Glandorf began to heat things up early in the contest as their leading goal scorer on the season Makenna Siefker utilized a crossing pass from teammate Lily Haselman and raced a shot past Shawnee keeper Chloe Nance for her 13th marker of the season for a 1-0 lead.

A mere :44 after giving the Titans the advantage the sophomore sensation scored again to run the advantage to 2-0 when she blitzed an offering past Nance inside the corner post for her 39th career score.

Ottawa Glandorf controlled the passing lanes and found themselves able to continually play inside the Indians half of the pitch and create scoring opportunities for much of the first half. Clara Beach helped to give her squad a 3-0 lead with 21:38 as she slipped a ball through the opposing defense to Bri Douglass who punched it through the net for the first of her own two goal effort on the evening.

Working out of one of their 16 corner kicks on the night the Titans rewarded Beach for her generosity moments earlier as she notched her seventh goal of 2022 by bodying in a long cross from Lily Haselman just before the halftime buzzer to push OG on top 4-0.

“It was an exciting win tonight against a tough Shawnee squad. I thought we did a great job in the attack especially with finishing on crosses” said Titan boss Michelle Maag on the victory.

Moments into the second half Ottawa Glandorf upped their lead to 5-0 when a helper by Beach reached the foot of Douglass who scampered through the box and fired a shot past Nance with 37:37 remaining.

The final marker of the evening came with 31:04 to cue the running clock for the Titans thanks to a lead from Lily Haselman to Mackenzie Recker that saw the latter kick in her ninth goal of the season for the eventual 6-0 final score.

Shawnee (7-1-3, 4-0-2) suffers their first loss of the season despite a 10 save performance from Chloe Nance who was charged with allowing more goals in this contest than she had allowed all season (five).

Next up for the Indians is a Saturday morning non-conference tilt with Napoleon.

Ottawa Glandorf moves to 11-1-2 overall and remains the only unbeaten in the Western Buckeye League at 7-0 with a pair of conference games remaining that starts with a 7pm home visit from Defiance on Tuesday.

“We had good movement from players off the ball and as a result we were able to connect quick passes. Defensively I thought our back line did a good job containing their attack and stepping hard to the ball. Tonight’s game was a big step forward for us and I am looking forward to see where we can go next” said Maag following the game.
