Siefker nets four in Titan triumph

METAMORA – Saturday afternoon Ottawa Glandorf sophomore Makenna Siefker picked up where her freshman season finished off as she netted four goals in a 6-0 Titan win over host Evergreen.

Traveling to a field that saw last seasons state title bound squad win a pair of district contests, this seasons Titans wasted no time making themselves at home on the scoreboard.

OG opened the scoring on the afternoon with 22:21 remaining in the opening half as a pass from senior forward Lily Haselman bounced perfectly across the Viking turf to the foot of Siefker who immediately raced the ball past keeper Hannah Wilson to put the Titans on top 1-0.

Less than a minute later the blue and gold sophomore struck once again as she snagged a helper from junior Bri Douglass and struck the back of the net for a second time to put OG on top 2-0 with a lead they would carry into the half.

“I thought we came out a bit slow in the first half and struggled to get things going” said Titan coach Michelle Maag on her teams first 40 minutes of play.

Ottawa Glandorf tweaked their pace of play to high gear in the opening moments of the second half of play as Douglass and Siefker reversed their roles from the first half as Douglas netted her first goal of the year with 34:50 remaining to put the visitors on top 3-0.

Junior standout Myka Aldrich joined the scoring parade for OG with 32:38 left on the clock with her second goal on the year to give OG a 4-0 advantage.

Three goals in nearly three minutes of play finished off a 5-0 lead with 31:52 on a lead pass from Aldrich to Siefker set up the latter’s hat trick goal.

The final marker of the game came with 16:10 and set the running clock in motion for the rest of the game as Siefker again found the back of the net for the fourth time in the contest and fifth of the season to provide the final cap to a 6-0 victory.

Evergreen (0-2) notched just one shot in the game while the Titans (1-0-1) fired 16 at the Vikings keeper. Freshman Karsyn Erford saved the only shot of the game for OG while Wilson turned away 10 for the Vikings.

After the final horn Maag opined “Today’s game was a story of two halves. The girls did a good job of turning things around in the second half and playing with a lot more energy which opened up some things for us offensively. We made progress as a team in the second half and will look to build off of that moving forward.”

Wednesday night Ottawa Glandorf will play host to Perrysburg at 7pm while the Vikings host Springfield at Pifer Field on Monday night.
