Titans blank Trojans

FINDLAY – Ottawa Glandorf notched their first shutout of the season Saturday evening as they turned away host Findlay 2-0.

Titan keeper Karsyn Erford, a sophomore who faced just a single kick a season ago was big between the posts for OG on this night as she saved nine shots. Two of the saves by Erford in the second half forced the blue and gold netminder to showcase her athleticism by leaping to punch away a would be Trojan score.

“Karsyn made saves when she was called upon and we’ve got our first shutout of the season” exclaimed OG head coach Michelle Maag. “Our back four did a good job of not allowing too many clean shots on goal. Defensively we could have been better at reading the next pass and making it more difficult on them”.

Ottawa Glandorf opened the low scoring evening with 25:28 remaining in the first half off of their second straight corner kick as a redirected ball bounced to the goal line but appeared to be stopped by Findlay’s Zoe McCormick before being awarded to the Titans by the corner official and credited to Maya Heringhaus. Delaney Duling was credited for her first assist of the season on the play.

Nearing the end of the half the Titans stole a ball and worked themselves deep into Trojan territory seeking to increase their lead and found themselves successful as senior striker Myka Aldrich took a pass from teammate Emma Herhinghaus and launched her second goal of the season into the net from straight away to make it a 2-0 game.

Each team found a small handful of openings in the second half in the opposing defenses but were unable to notch a marker thanks to the play of Erford and McCormick who combined for 13 saves on the evening.

“It was a tough matchup tonight against a strong Findlay side” opined Maag who finished by saying “The positive of the game is we were opportunistic in front of the net when our chances came and two hustle plays resulted in two goals for us”.

Findlay is back in action on Tuesday night as they travel to Toledo to battle St. Ursula while Ottawa Glandorf finds themselves idle until Saturday afternoon when they host Sylvania Southview in a 1pm tilt that can be heard live on https://christiannetcast.com/listen/player.asp?station=zsportslive2
