Titans roll past Bulldogs

GLANDORF – Ottawa Glandorf’s soccer team pitched their fifth consecutive shutout of the season Thursday night at the rain soaked Titan Soccer Complex as they downed league foe Celina 7-0.

OG jumped out to a fast start on the offensive side as Mackenzie Recker sliced her way through Celina defenders to set up teammate Makenna Siefker’s first of three goals on the night and give the Titans a 1-0.

Just under a minute and a half after Siefker’s goal allowed her to take over the team lead, senior Myka Aldrich drew even on the year and pushed the hosts to a 2-0 advantage as she blasted a ball from nearly 40 yards away past Celina keeper Isabel Maxwell.

Working again with Recker as her lead, Siefker notched her second goal in the first half with 30:38 remaining to give her squad a 3-0 lead.

“We got off to a fast start tonight. Our first half was very good. We had the ball moving quickly and scored in a variety of ways while limiting any attacking opportunities for Celina” said Titan boss Michelle Maag.

Defender Carlie Brinkman joined the Titan scoring party with 24:13 to go before halftime as she raced through the midfield and blitzed a hard right footed shot through the back of the net for her second marker of the season.

Facing a rain that at times was drizzling and at times a downpour the Titans added a pair of goals before the break thanks to Siefker’s hat trick number at 9:56 and an ankle breaking back line connection from senior Bri Douglass to amass a 6-0 mark on the scoreboard.

The second half saw the rain pick up and just one score for Ottawa Glandorf, a shot with 17:37 to go from Recker that upped her season tally to 13 and the home teams’ advantage to 7-0.

“The second half we had a harder time finding our rhythm, but did hit a stretch of about ten minutes where we created multiple good chances” said Maag.

Celina keeper Isabel Maxwell turned away a pair of shots on the night for the Bulldogs (7-5-1) who fell to 2-4-1 in the Western Buckeye League and who will next host Delphos St. Johns in non-league action at 11am on Saturday.

Second ranked Ottawa Glandorf runs their WBL winning streak to 19 games and 7-0 for the 2023 season with the victory. Next up for the Titans (13-0) will be a trip to Lima on Tuesday night for a conference clash with the last team to deal the blue and gold a league defeat back in 2021.

“All league victories are important and hard earned. We will take what we learned and get ready for our next big matchup at Shawnee” finished Maag on her match thoughts.
