Titans shoot past Patriots

HAMLER – Ottawa Glandorf led by a career performance from Chloee Glenn and solid scoring raced past host Patrick Henry in Tuesday nights non-conference tilt 63-33.

Playing in just her second game of the season the 5’10 sophomore forward snared a handful of rebounds and provided solid post defense for the Titans and turned post entry passes into a career high tying 17 points.

Though their scoring didn’t start until the middle of the first quarter, OG sprinted to an 18-6 first quarter lead with three pointers from Kelsey Erford, and Emma Brinkman and baskets by Ella Okuley, Erin Kaufman, and a layup from Glenn herself that just beat the quarter horn.

Patrick Henry’s Kayla Prigge knocked down a 3-point goal with 1:27 remaining in the first period but would not be able to see her team find the bottom of the basket again until 4:54 to go in the second quarter when she split a pair of free throws. Unfortunately for the Patriots their opponents raced to a 9-0 run in the final minute and a half and a 15-1 run lead overall to build a 31-14 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter Glenn stamped her biggest scoring mark on the game as she would connect on a quartet of shots from the field and a solo free throw to complete an and-one opportunity for nine of her teams 19 markers in the quarter.

“I think Chloee stepped up pretty big tonight on both ends of the floor, her defense was her best of the season and she was able to get some offensive rebounds and focus on finishing in the paint” said Titan coach Troy Yant.

Senior guard Kelsey Erford paced the rest of the offense for OG in the third as she would score six of her 11 game points for her third double double game of the year.

With Ottawa Glandorf subbing in and out nearly a dozen players off of their bench the Patriots found themselves finally able to knock down some shots in the second half but struggled similarly to the first half as nearly three and a half minutes came off the clock between makes by Karsyn Weber from the field and from Madison Prigge from the free throw line.

Patriots senior McKenzie Vance, a 2nd team NWOAL selection a season ago was held to just seven points in the contest by the hectic defense provided by the Titans but did knock down a three pointer in the second quarter for one of her teams two makes from outside.

Asked about his teams ability to find open players on the floor with their passing game on the evening Yant remarked “We were always going to be a work in progress without Maggie (Verhoff) out of the lineup but we just had a little more practice.”

Ottawa’s  twin towers of Erin and Katie Kaufman combined to score 13 points and along with Glenn produce mismatches and issues in the rebounding game for Patrick Henry to contend with.

Patrick Henry (0-2) was led in scoring by sophomore Madison Prigge with 9 and will travel to Holgate on Thursday evening to battle the Tigers.

OG (4-0) saw 10 players etch their name in the scorebook and will again be on the road Thursday night to open up defense of their five straight Western Buckeye League titles and 37 game conference winning streak in Wapakoneta as they battle the Redskins.
