Titans tame Wildcats to claim WBL lead

OTTAWA – Third ranked Ottawa Glandorf took down visiting Bath on Thursday night at the Supreme Court 61-46 to remain unbeaten and in the driver’s seat in pursuit of their third consecutive WBL crown.

“The energy and success we had converting defense into offense in the third quarter really is what separated us from Bath tonight” opined Titan boss Troy Yant on his squad’s 15th straight league win and third in a row over Bath.

Trailing 23-22 to open the games penultimate period the host blue and gold took their first and final lead of the second half on their first possession as junior sharpshooter Kaitlyn Kimmet drowned a left-wing triple. OG continued to turn Bath miscues into points through the quarter and run their advantage out to 39-27 on makes by Carlie Brinkman, Karsyn Erford, Myka Aldrich, and a three-pointer from Megan Horstman.

“Myka played really well for us tonight” said Yant. “The girls off the bench, Megan, Savannah, and Liv gave us good rotations and solid defensive effort as well.”

Senior Katie Kaufman made her mark on the game in the fourth quarter by connecting on a basket inside and outside offensively while helping to keep the visiting Wildcats off the scoreboard with her defense in the post.

Bath (9-4, 4-1) was led in scoring by 6’0 senior Anne Oliver’s 15 points and was joined by Claire Foust (9 points) and Izzy McDermott (11).

McDermott led the Bath attack early as she canned a pair of triples that sent the Wildcats into an early 3-0 lead in the first and then tied the game in the middle of the second period 13-13 with her second from beyond the arc.

OG’s back court of Carlie Brinkman (11 points), and Karsyn Erford (18 points) led the way for the Titans (14-1, 5-0) with each handling the point guard slot at times while the other sought to find a space to operate inside the Bath zone defense.

“Karsyn is starting to learn how to take the game in her hands and we needed that tonight but we still need to find a little better rhythm to our half court offense” said Yant.

Myka Aldrich ended the night with 10 points with eight coming in the second half in addition to her multiple steals and rebounds. Senior classmate Kaufman ended the game with her 11th double figure game of the season with 10 points as well for the Titans.

Bath will be off until Tuesday evening when they travel to Delphos to battle St. Johns while OG is next in action on Saturday against county rival Ottoville on the road with an 11am JV start.
