Titans reign supreme on senior night

OTTAWA – Facing a steady rain and a tough defense the Lady Titans were able to celebrate their eldest members with a victory on Thursday night 4-0 victory over county rival Kalida.

“It’s always exciting to grab a win on senior night. This senior class of nine girls has given so much to our team. Without a doubt they have raised the standards within our program both on and off the field” said OG head coach Michelle Maag.

Junior standout Makenna Siefker got the Titans on the scoreboard first with 27:49 in the opening half off of a pass from senior forward Bri Douglass that set the OG leading scorer in motion for her 20th marker of the season.

Racing to the Kalida goal line Douglass tallied her second point of the evening and 50th goal of her career to give her team a 2-0 lead at 16:05 when she floated a ball over Wildcat keeper Kassidy Hipsher.

OG’s last goal of the first half came courtesy of freshman forward Emma Heringhaus who notched her seventh tally with 13:13 to send the Titans ahead into the break 3-0.

The lone marker of the second half came from a pair of players celebrating their last regular season home game in the form of Myka Aldrich and Mackenzie Recker who teamed up for a Recker goal at 28:51 to run the advantage to 4-0.

Kalida’s Kassidy Hipsher made seven saves on the night for the Wildcats who drop to 6-5-3 on the season with the loss. Next up for Kalida is a pair of Putnam County League home games against Continental and Columbus Grove on Tuesday and Thursday respectively.

“We had moments of great soccer during this game but we are still working to turn those moments into longer stretches of play” said Maag. “We had a considerable number of our shots blocked or deflected today. Quicker ball movement and a faster shot release could help us with that. This was a game we can build off of as we take on a very strong Perrysburg team on Monday.”

OG (15-0) pitches their sixth straight shutout thanks to the duo of Karsyn Erford and Libbie Niese and will be on the road battling aforementioned Perrysburg Monday evening in a battle of state ranked teams.
